It's never a bad idea to knock down two birds with one stone. With Mother's Day coming up in just about a week, celebrations will be in full swing, especially since it won't be as closed down as last Mother's Day.

It goes without saying that many local businesses have been hit hard the past year with the pandemic and the focus from the beginning, has been to help them in any way possible. I think many communities, including Rochester NY, have done an outstanding job sharing their favorite local businesses in hopes of helping them increase their sales. One by one, we call all make a difference.

Below are some ideas of how you can celebrate Mother's Day while also supporting local businesses in Rochester, NY. This list is limited so please be sure to share your ideas in the comments below.

1. Mother's Day brunch at small. locally owned restaurants.

Rochester has an incredible selection of amazing restaurants with incredibly tasty dishes, comforting atmosphere, and friendly staff. Some of my favorite places for brunch are: Village Bakery, Simply Crepes, The Gate House, Cure, Trata, and Jines. While this is not a complete list, these are some suggestions to get you thinking and exploring.

2. Purchase a Gift from local gift shops.

Lets face it, we all love Amazon and other national stores, however, they get a lot more sales than smaller shops owned by our neighbors in our community. Some of these include Mackenzies Marketplace, Juniper Gifts + Local Art, Little Button Craft and Press, Eleventh Hour Gift Shop, and Lala of Webster. The public market is also a great place to look for ideas. Do your research on these shops and see what the best gift for the Mother figures in your life would be. Of course, this list is not complete, but it is an idea that can get you thinking of purchasing your gift locally.

3. Purchase a gift card from her favorite salon.

Every Mother deserves to be pampered at her favorite salon. Figure out where she gets her hair and/or nails done and consider popping in the salon to see if they do have gift certificates or gift cards for purchase. You can also save yourself the trip and call to find out. Also, there are many other beauty services that many would love. Some include microblading, electrolysis, and lash extensions. These are some of the most popular ones done by very talented local professionals. Keep in mind, many of these businesses were closed for a very long time in the beginning of this pandemic and were very negatively impacted financially. To find recommendations for these services, you can use the following sources: Google, Instagram, community facebook groups, and by asking friends, family, and coworker. In the comment section below, be sure to name some of your favorites. This might give others great ideas.

4. Got someone that loves to garden?

So many love gardening and with Spring being in full swing, there is no better time than now to hit locally owned farms and garden centers. Some of these are Welch's Greenhouse, Broccolo Garden Center, The Garden Center, and Agway Gardens. From flowers, to gardening supplies, there is no better time to give the gift of a contribution to a better garden.

While this list is very limited, I truly hope it give some an idea of how they can support local this Mother's Day. Please share your favorite local spots in the comments and help your community business owners thrive like never before.
