Melville has the highest percentage of residents in the Town of Huntington who are vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus, according to figures released Monday by New York State.

The database uses ZIP Codes to break down vaccination information, and shows Melville’s vaccination rate at 81.4 percent. At the bottom of the list is Huntington Station at 66.3 percent. Not all communities, such as Dix Hills, are identified separately if they share a ZIP code but the database names the communities, including: Huntington (11743) 72.9; Northport (11768) 72.8;  East Northport (11731) 68.8; Cold Spring Harbor (11724) 72.0; Greenlawn (11740) 73.1; Commack (11725) 68.3 and Centerport  (11721) 73.7 percent.

Data was released as Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said the state would spend $15 million to expand outreach in communities with low vaccination rates. The state awarded $5.5 million to the Hispanic Federation, $5.5 million to the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies, $1 million to the New York Immigration Coalition, $1 million to the Asian American Federation, $1 million to the Charles B. Wang Community Center, and $1 million to APICHA Community Health Center in New York City.

The push comes as the delta variant has created an upswing in infections of the unvaccinated around the country.

“What do we do? Get smart target the communities that have high COVID spread and a low vaccination rate,” Cuomo said. “Be smart. We have the data. We’re looking for 25 percent of the population that has been unvaccinated. Target that population and targeted in areas where you’re seeing COVID spread and you know you have a low vaccination rate.

“That’s where COVID spreading. That’s where the vaccination rate is low. That, my friends, is what we have to target. We know where this is happening and where this is,” Cuomo said.

Of  the 117 ZIP Codes with the lowest vaccination rates, 21 of them are on Long Island.

The state has produced a  new ad to promote vaccination.
