During this trip to the Maldives we were excited to dedicate a few days to exploring an inhabited island. Luau Beach Inn is located on picturesque Fulidhoo Island. Fringed by sweeping palms and crystal clear waters, the small island is an idyllic paradise. As we stepped off the speedboat onto the jetty, our host Linda greeted us with a warm hello and welcome to their beautiful island. We saw stingrays and nurse sharks leisurely swimming along the shores while we walked the short distance to the entrance.

The welcoming boutique property is modern and newly designed featuring sleek and comfortable guest rooms complete with private balconies that overlook spectacular ocean views. The rooftop restaurant is a huge highlight where you sample Maldivian and International flavours while enjoying panoramic views. On the ground floor level you’ll find communal spaces where guests can help themselves to tea and coffee, refill water bottles and relax after a day of snorkelling or diving. An on-site dive centre means you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to day trips out to see the abundant marine life that the Maldives has to offer. Those who are looking to just chill on a pristine white sand beach will be happy to hear a “bikini beach” is adjacent to the entrance where you can sunbathe and dip into the clear turquoise ocean.

We loved the friendly and engaging team who showed us around the island ensuring we felt right at home. It was interesting to see a slice of local Maldivian life, sampling traditional curries, waking early to see them feeding the resident rooster and hen, and the kids were ecstatic to see they had pet kittens. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about the best spots for snorkelling and diving and arranged a private boat trip suitable for our family. We had a trip of a lifetime snorkelling with nurse sharks and turtles before hanging out on a secluded sandbank for the morning. Every detail was taken care of from snorkelling gear for all ages and safety precautions while we were in the water. Our captain and dive master were fun and informative and even great with kids.

Visiting an inhabited island is a great way to spend time in paradise and have access to more affordable options for accommodation and boat trips. Not only is Luau Beach Inn located on one of the most stunning islands we’ve seen in the Maldives but their incredible team will ensure you feel right at home and have a trip to remember.
