Hotel 1899 fuses classic Japanese tradition, the art of the tea service, and modern accommodation at their stylish boutique hotel. The inviting property is tucked away from the busy streets of Tokyo creating a tranquil ambiance for the discerning traveller. The welcoming staff assist in a speedy check-in experience and we loved the gift shop where we could pick up high quality Japanese green teas and Matcha kits.
The guest rooms are infused with understated luxury, modern amenities, and detailed touches that bring refined Japanese design to the forefront of the style and decor. We loved the Corner Deluxe Twin boasting two large beds, a deep soaking tub, and large windows filtering the perfect lighting for an ambient stay. The Superior Double is cozy with a Japanese style bed and table setting, great for couples who want a taste of Japanese cultural guesthouses alongside Western comforts.
A tea ceremony is available for all guests on the 2nd floor where you can experience the art of matcha. We also thoroughly enjoyed the light and healthy breakfast served at Chaya each morning. Fresh fish and traditional Japanese specialities were served alongside freshly baked bread and pastries and we couldn’t resist the fragrant coffee and selection of artisanal tea. Service was charming and friendly throughout our stay and the staff went out of their way to ensure our family felt welcome.
Although Hotel 1899 feels miles away from the crowds and tourist attractions it is actually located in the vibrant Shinbashi area. We were within short walking distance to a huge array of local restaurants and cafes as well as the subway to easily travel to popular sights and explore all Tokyo has to offer. A great choice for families or couples wanting to experience Japanese tradition and culture alongside modern luxury at the heart of Tokyo.
