Many don’t know there are ancient Inca ruins at the heart of Lima, so we were pleasantly surprised to hear about a world class restaurant set at the site of the historic ruins. As soon as you set foot in Restaurant Huaca Pucllana you’ll understand the unique and unforgettable qualities of this must do dining experience.

The inviting and stylish restaurant features elegant interiors, welcoming service, and a sprawling outdoor terrace overlooking Huaca Pucllana. As we stepped into the buzzing dining area we were blown away by the intimate ambiance, modern decor, and the lights shining on the ancient ruins.  The juxtaposition of the scene created a special dinner experience and was truly a highlight of our trip to Lima.

The history of Huaca Pucllana, which was used by the Incas as a marketplace and for religious ceremonies, was explained to us and we were also given recommendations for must try drinks and dishes. We were lucky enough to have a chat with the talented chef who introduced us to a variety of produce used in the menu which is native to Peru. We loved the chef’s modern take on classic recipes and his use of high quality local fare to create a taste to remember.

Favourite dishes included the crisp and refreshing “False Cebiche Tacos” with Kimchi and Mango, the delicate and creamy “Amazonian Fish Fillet” with Aji Negro Sauce, Yucca and Coconut Puree, and Fresh Hearts of Palm Salad, and the decadent “Braised Lamb Shank” with Quinoa Stew with Cheese and Vegetables. The flavours and textures mixed perfectly in every bite and paired well with their expertly crafted Pisco sours.
