Wonder Woman/Gal Gadot will head a James Bond spy action thriller / Mission: Impossible for Netflix, who is planning to start a franchise.
Netflix has just won an auction on a project sold by the Skydance studio, which has already brought him the juicy hits The Old Guard and 6 Underground. Usually a partner of Paramount, with whom it produces the franchise Mission: Impossible, this is the third time the company turns to streaming, and the object of the deal is... an international action/spy thriller at Mission: Impossible sprinkled with James Bond. We don't change a recipe that works, but we can change it a little: in this case, the main role will be played by a woman, and not the least, since it's Gal Gadot, alias Wonder Woman for the DCEU.
The project is entitled Heart of Stone and if the amounts are secret, one can imagine that the costs are very high since Deadline reveals that the actress will receive "an 8-figure fee". That's a minimum of 10 million dollars, an additional sign if one were needed that Gal Gadot's career looks set to flourish, with Patty Jenkins' Cleopatra biopic on the horizon and appearances in Kenneth Branagh's much-anticipated Death on the Nile and in Red Notice alongside Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds. And we're not even talking about Wonder Woman 3, already announced.
As for the scenario, this is still the big unknown concerning Heart of Stone, since no details have been revealed and it is not yet an adaptation - nothing like the DLC of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Unbelievable but true: Heart of Stone could well be an original scenario, an exception in times of adaptations, remakes and reboots.
What we do know, however, is that the film will be directed by British filmmaker Tom Harper. A relatively unknown name behind which hides however a veteran of about forty years spent in particular by the realization of episodes of Misfits and Peaky Blinders. He also has a few feature-length films that have been rather positively received by critics in general, including The Aeronauts, which the editors loved. So let's hope this all bodes well for the future. No release date or shooting date has been announced yet.
