According to, Rite Aid pharmacies, in the wake of its bankruptcy, will close an additional 31 stores across the country. This development arrives one month following the pharmaceutical giant's recent closure of 150 other U.S. locations.

A Closer Look

As documented by, a Rite Aid representative said the closings were due to underperformance and “to further reduce rent expense and strengthen overall financial performance.”

Rite Aid has approximately half as many active pharmacies as it did in 2013, while more than 200 locations have shuttered since 2021.

The last few years, particularly this year of 2023, have seen the closure of countless business operations; a sad development, indicative of the pandemic residue, and the subsequent increasing economic challenges around the country and throughout the world. The Rite Aid closings now compound the issue.
