Overview
Once located on 232 Lyell Ave, Roncone's Italian restaurant, which closed in 2019, was a Rochester staple since the 1930s, right alongside the equally historic Antonetta's and Rocky's.
A Closer Look
According to past Democrat and Chronicle stories, the restaurant was founded by Peter Roncone, a native of Italy. When he passed away in 1948, Roncone left the business to his sons, Joseph and Peter. Through the decades, Roncone's changed owners, periodically shuttering its doors prior to any new proprietorship.
In 2019, Jimmy Paulino, Roncone's owner and chef for that establishment's previous three years, opened Paulino’s Restaurant, at 2003 Lyell Ave. in Gates, near Route 390. Paulino's served Rocone's iconic recipes, including various homemade pasta dishes, as well as tripe, chicken, and veal parmesan, among others.
Conclusion
There are countless other terrific Italian restaurants in the Rochester area, including the iconic Rocky's on Oak Street in the City, and legendary Joey's Pasta House in Penfield. Each, like the original Roncone's and Paulino's, offers their own brand and mix of nostalgia and delicious food.
