According to journalist Jeremy Baily and TheWrap.com, 97-year-old entertainer Dick Van Dyke was treated at the scene of a car crash on a very rainy day in Malibu for facial abrasions and released.
Van Dyke, who recently made a tremendous guest appearance on TV's The Masked Singer, is one of the most beloved entertainers of all time. He can do it all: act, sing, dance, write, and produce. And he's not only adored by millions of fans but the countless colleagues he has worked with over the decades.
As Bailey reported, "Dick Van Dyke suffered cuts to his face and a potential concussion when he crashed into a gate last week in Malibu, police say."
The Hollywood legend, who has starred in iconic movies like Mary Poppins and its sequel, Mary Poppins Returns, as well as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and more, was treated at the scene for abrasions to his nose and mouth but declined further treatment and was released, according to officials.
"Van Dyke was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol but was picked up from the scene of the crash," Bailey noted.
Van Dyke's son, Barry Van Dyke, also an actor (who co-starred with his father in the hit TV series, Diagnosis: Murder), sent a note of relief to his father's fans on Facebook. "Thanks, everybody for the well wishes for my Dad," Barry wrote. "He had a minor accident in his neighborhood yesterday avoiding a delivery truck. He got a couple [of] stitches in his lip and is a little sore this morning, but is otherwise fine, and in good spirits. Everyone, please drive safe in these wet conditions!"
Van Dyke, who has over 80 acting, writing, and producing credits spanning a six-decade-long career, is perhaps best known for his legendary TV series, The Dick Van Dyke Show, which originally ran for five seasons on CBS from 1961 to 1966.
