According to several media outlets, including DailyMail.Uk, and the Hollywood Reporter, the 1970s police detective show Starsky & Hutch is coming back to TV - but with a female cast.

The show will be set in the fictional town of Desert City, unlike its original Bay City.

The original series, created by William Blinn, starred David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser, and aired on ABC from 1975-1979, and was created by William Blinn.

As documented by The Hollywood Reporter, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorne confirmed the news this week.

With show-runners Sam Sklaver and Elizabeth Peterson, the new series will feature two female detectives, Sasha Starsky, and Nicole Hutchinson. It is not yet known who will portray them, but the producers promise the reboot will remain true to the original show's mythology.

For example, as noted on IMBD.com, that mythology includes things Ken Hutchinson being into healthy food, often seen concocting himself smoothies of almond milk, wheat germ, and raw honey or eating muesli for breakfast. In contrast, Dave Starsky being into junk food, favoring pizza, burgers, and hot dogs galore.

As IMDB also explained, the original show's theme music changed three times. The first one was the most dramatic one, and better suited to a cop TV series. It is, by far, the fans' favorite.

That said the original series has a loyal following, and it will be interesting to see how those loyalists will respond to the revamped edition.

And what's next? A Charlie's Angels reboot with three guys and a female voiceover?

Possibly. Anything can happen in Hollywood.
