Wow! It is already turkey day! This year has gone by so fast, and I’m thankful that I’m still here to share all the fun things to do around Michigan. This is the time to watch parades, run in turkey trots, shop at holiday craft shows, and so much more. Here are the upcoming holiday events around Michigan for Nov. 25th through Dec. 1st.

America's Thanksgiving Parade 11/25 - Detroit

America’s Thanksgiving Parade is one of the country’s largest and most spectacular Parades in the United States! Dating back to 1924, this holiday tradition happens every November on Detroit’s historic Woodward Avenue. Thousands of parade spectators line Woodward Avenue Thanksgiving morning to watch the larger-than-life floats, colorful helium-filled balloons, and lively marching bands. The Parade is televised live locally on WDIV- Local 4 starting at 10 a.m. and noon. The Parade kicks off from the corner of Kirby and Woodward at 8:45 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. 9th Annual Turkey Trot 5k Run/Walk or Ride 11/25 - Grand Haven

This Thanksgiving, enjoy doing what you love while giving back! Grab your friends and family (and horses!) and join us for a 5k “trot” before the Thanksgiving Day feast! Out Side In will be hosting the 9th Annual 5K fundraiser in downtown Grand Haven. This 5K is family and kid-friendly. All of the proceeds of this race will support our Heroes for Horses program for Veterans who have PTSD. Can’t join us in person or plan to saddle up for this 5k? You can still support the cause by signing up for the virtual race!

Up North Media Traverse City Turkey Trot 11/25 - Traverse City

The Traverse City Turkey Trot racers will begin and end the race at St. Francis High School, winding through downtown Traverse City in between. The 5K Run/Walk and the 5 Mile Flyer option will be part of the event this year. Spend your Thanksgiving morning making memories and traditions by participating, or just come down and watch all the fun! Event proceeds benefit the Traverse Area Recreation Trails. Meadow Brook Hall’s Holiday Walk & Winter Wonder Lights 11/26-12/30 - Rochester Hills

Experience the wonder of more than 50 magnificent trees—including a 10-foot tall Poinsettia tree created by 150 live plants, dazzling trimmings, and lights galore! Holiday Walk is a self-guided indoor event featuring incomparable holiday sights and decorations inside Meadow Brook Hall, the historic mansion, and the National Historic Landmark located in Rochester Hills. Holiday Walk is an indoor, daytime event. Winter Wonder Lights is an outdoor evening event. Winter Wonder Lights features live organ music playing Christmas Carols, glow-in-the-dark cotton candy, bonfires, and plenty of holiday cheer. Seasonally-inspired beverages, cocktails, and kid-friendly drinks are available. Meadow Brook Hall is at 350 Estate Drive on the Oakland University Campus.

Kentwood Turkey Trail 11/24-11/29 - Kentwood

Gobble gobble! Kentwood Parks and Recreation is bringing back the Kentwood Turkey Trail again this year to a new location! We’ve hidden nine turkeys along the trail at Stanaback Park. Get outside and check it out through November 29th to see if you can spot all nine turkeys hidden along the path. Take a selfie with your favorite turkey, share on Facebook and use the tag #KentwoodTurkeyTrail or email your picture to eRecreation@kentwood.us to be entered to win a fun prize! Parking is available at Stanaback Park (3717 Whitebud Dr. SE). To get to the park from Breton Rd, turn onto Pfeiffer Woods Drive and then left on Whitebud Dr. The park is located at the end of the road. Stanaback Park is at 3717 Whitebud Road SE.

Light Up Cedar 11/26 - Cedar

Welcome in the holiday season in Cedar with the 2nd annual Light Up Cedar event! Some of Santa's reindeer will be making a special appearance at this event at about 5:30 PM, followed by the holiday street illumination at 6 PM. Santa himself will arrive to light the community tree at 6:30 PM. Join us for a night of Christmas magic on S. Cedar Road.

2021 Border Battle 5k 11/26 - Ann Arbor

Here's your chance to celebrate, support, and participate in the rivalry between U of M and Ohio State like never before! During this 5K event, declare your allegiance and receive your race shirt in the University of Michigan Blue or Ohio State Scarlett. Not committed to one team? Use the Party Crasher division and receive the custom crasher t-shirt in gold! All fans will gather to compete for supremacy in the fun, festive atmosphere in Gallup Park at 3000 Fuller Road.

Glen Arbor Tree Lighting & Carol Sing-a-Long 11/26 - Glen Arbor

The Glen Arbor Tree Lighting & Caroling starts at 6:15 pm outside the Town Hall with Carols led by members of Glen Lake Church. The tree will be ceremonially lit by Leonard Thoreson, who has lived in Glen Arbor all of his life. Be among the first to shop artisan goods during the Holiday Market Opening from 6:30 to 8 pm (masks required inside). Events happen at the Glen Arbor Town Hall at 6394 W. Western Avenue.

7th Annual Holiday Shopping Extravaganza 11/27 - Pigeon

Do your Christmas shopping all in one place at the Bluewater Thumb YFC building for the 7th Annual Kick-off to the season of giving! Many vendors will be here in the open house... so shop, visit, and of course, you know we'll have some yummy snacks! Bluewater Thumb YFC Building is at 7392 W. Michigan Avenue.

Holiday in the Village: A Family Day & Holiday Stroll 11/27 - Suttons Bay

The magic of the season is captured beautifully in our charming Suttons Bay village. The stores are adorned with lights and holiday finery, a truly special place to make memories this holiday season. You’ll find curated collections, a personal shopping experience in a safe environment with smaller crowds. Highlights include Caroling on the Corner, Santa arriving via fire truck, storytime with Mrs. Claus, tree lighting, mail letters to Santa, gifts from Santa, extended business hours & more! Come out to Downtown Suttons Bay on Front Street.

Holly Berry Art & Crafts Fair 11/27 - Frankfort

Looking for that special way to share the start of the holiday season with family and friends? Need to get your holiday shopping Started or Finished? Well then, you should plan to come to Frankfort and Elberta to begin the day with breakfast in one of the local restaurants and then check out all of the unique gift ideas from the craft, and art exhibitors at the Holly Berry Art & Crafts Fair held at the Frankfort High School from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. A suggested $2 donation will be collected this year when you enter the show. All paid entries receive a FREE $1 raffle ticket. Kids 15 and under are Free. Take a complimentary Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride in Frankfort departing from Frankfort High School from 10 am - 12:00 pm. The Frankfort-Elberta Chamber of Commerce will provide complimentary Donut Holes. Once again, FREE Coffee and Hot Cocoa at PETALS & PERKS will be provided before and after the event! Frankfort High School is at 534 11th Street.

Christmas Tree Lighting 2021 11/27 - Harbor Springs

Celebrate 106 years of a magical tradition in downtown Harbor Springs at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting. Start the day with a visit to the Lyric Theatre for a great holiday movie, followed immediately by a visit from Santa right outside the theatre. Walk down to the intersection of Main and Spring a little later and pat Santa's visiting reindeer! At 6:00, enjoy the magical tradition in downtown Harbor Springs at the Christmas Tree Lighting. Gather with your friends and neighbors to sing carols, enjoy the lighting of the tree on Main Street and celebrate the winners of the annual window decorating contest. The public is then invited to attend an ecumenical chili dinner in the Holy Childhood Parish Hall at 150 W Main Street, adjacent to the tree, where you can enjoy homemade cookies and hot cocoa.

Aglow on the Avenue Parade 11/26-11/27 - Ludington

The downtown streets will be "aglow" for this holiday event, which will usher in Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the Christmas season in Ludington. All parade entries are lighted for this evening parade, and children are then invited to meet with Santa at Sandcastles Children's Museum when it's finished! A tree lighting will also occur in James Street Plaza/town square in Downtown Ludington at 112 N. James Street.

57th Annual Marshall Christmas Parade 11/29 - Marshall

A tradition that started with a single truck in 1948 has turned into something quite magical over the years, as Marshall kicks off the holiday season with their annual Christmas Parade. Norman Rockwell would be delighted to experience such an exciting and joyous parade among the backdrop of vintage decorations that grace the town of Marshall. Many of the decorations are almost as old as the parade tradition itself! Thousands of families from Marshall and the surrounding communities have made this event a tradition. With carolers and hot cocoa, it is bound to warm every heart with the magic of the holidays...Downtown Marshall is at 323 W. Michigan Avenue.

Mixed Evergreen Wreath Class at Kellogg Manor House 12/1 - Hickory Corners

The W.K. Kellogg Conference Center and Manor House are holding holiday craft classes this season. A Mixed Evergreen Wreath class is set for Wednesday, Dec. 1. Create a beautiful wreath using live, fresh, evergreen branches. All materials are included in the admission fee, but guests should bring pruning shears and gloves. No previous experience is necessary. The class meets in the KBS Carriage House’s classroom from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost for each event is $45, and registration is required.
