It is the season to start celebrating the holidays and what a better way to do this is by visiting your favorite Christmas light displays around Michigan. There are quite a few of them and I will be posting more as I find them. But, in the meantime, here are some of my favorites of the Christmas Light Displays showing off some amazing lighting masterpieces this holiday season. Which one will you be going to?

Within the DTE Energy Music Theater parking lot, the Magic of Lights, Detroit’s newest holiday tradition, opens this Friday, November 19th. The dazzling drive-through light display features holiday-themed scenes and characters using the latest LED technology and digital animations, including the all-new Prehistoric Christmas and Mega Tree displays. Magic of Lights is a dazzling, drive-through holiday lights experience featuring favorite holiday scenes and characters of the season using the latest LED technology and digital animations. Experience Magic of Lights from the comfort and safety of your car as you wind through the sparkling path of Detroit’s newest holiday tradition. One carload, one price. Tickets start at $20.00, plus fees.

Lightfest at Hines Park 11/18-12/31 - Westland

The Wayne County Lightfest is a magical four-mile stretch of Hines Park, displaying nearly 50 animated themed displays and more than 100,000 lights. The Lightfest is open Wednesday - Sunday from Thursday, from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM. The Lightfest is closed Monday and Tuesday evenings. Due to the overwhelming response to the Lightfest, wait times may be longer than normal on weekends. The entrance to the Lightfest is 7651 North Merriman Road, which is on Merriman between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren Avenue in Westland, 2 1/2 miles south of I-96. The Lightfest fee is $5/car.

Come out and experience 40 magical nights with millions of LED lights illuminating trees, buildings, and more than 280 sculptures throughout the front half of the Zoo. Experience the magic of the Detroit Zoo in winter as you take in the sights and sounds of the season. This one-of-a-kind experience runs from November 20, 2021, to January 9, 2022, on select weeknights; Sundays, 5-9 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays, 5-10:30 p.m. Detroit Zoo is at 8450 W. 10 Mile Road.

27th Annual Wonderland of Lights 11/20-12/26 - Lansing

It’s time for this year's annual Wonderland of Lights at Potter Park Zoo. Don’t miss this seasonal Lansing staple! Tour the grounds with friends and family as thousands of lights and decorations transform the zoo into a holiday spectacle. There will be cookie decorating, crafts, and animal encounters for all to enjoy! Potter Park Zoo is at 1301 S. Pennsylvania Avenue.

Merry & Bright Season of Light 11/21-1/6 - Alpena

Besser Museum invites the public to enjoy our annual dazzling Christmas displays. Trees from around the world & so much more! Tour the museum and see the Christmas of old and new. Adults $5, Seniors and Children (6-18) $3, and Veterans are free. Open Monday & Wednesday - Saturday 10 am - 4 pm. Open Sunday Noon - 4 pm. Closed Tuesdays. Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan is on 491 Johnson Street.

Metro Health Christmas & Holiday Traditions 11/23-1/2 - Grand Rapids

Ring in the season with our most beloved winter exhibition. Honoring holiday cultures worldwide, Meijer Gardens focuses on the handcrafted symbols of beloved holiday traditions - it's an idyllic spot to center your thoughts on the true meaning of the holidays. Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is at 1000 East Beltline Avenue NE

Winter Celebration 11/24-1/2 - Port Huron

Winter Celebration At Pine Grove Park is a spectacular event when the City of Port Huron and Port Huron businesses express their holiday greetings in the form of outdoor lighted displays arranged throughout the park at Pine Grove Ave. Bring the whole family for a drive-through or stroll throughout the park. Nightly from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Pine Grove Park is at 1204 Pine Grove Avenue.

2021 Christmas Lite Show Drive Thru 11/24-1/1 - Comstock Park

West Michigan’s largest, animated drive-through light show is back for “Another Year of Magic!” This season marks our 24th year of entertaining people of all ages, and we can’t wait to see you! Enjoy nearly two miles of Christmas magic with over a million lights, animated displays, lighted tunnels, and more. Here are the dates & times:

  • Sunday-Thursday 5:30 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Friday-Saturday 5:30 PM - 10:00 PM
  • On weekdays, gates close at 9:00 p.m.
  • On weekends, gates close at 10:00 p.m.

If you are in line at that time, we will still let you drive through. We will not shut the lights off on you. At Christmas Lite Show, we carry out the spirit of Christmas by spreading our joy and good fortune. It’s all about making kids of all ages smile and helping families make lifetime memories together each year. Christmas Light Show is at 4500 West River Drive NE.

Big Bright Lights 11/22-1/3 - Rochester

The Big Bright Light Show will begin at 7 p.m., Nov. 22, in downtown Rochester. Santa Claus will visit with children from 7:15 to 9 p.m. The lights will continue to illuminate downtown Rochester businesses from 5 p.m. to midnight through Jan. 2, then nightly on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays until Jan. 15. The light show features over 12 different LED lights colors, including a few new colors this year that have never been seen yet. The new lights were a last-minute surprise for the town. These Christmas lights are on every downtown building, including beautiful Christmas decorations and amazing & creative window displays. Over one million colorful lights cover each building on Main Street and some of the side streets.
