The Rainbow Place in Rockville is hosting an online basket raffle through October 24, 2021. Participate in the raffle and not only will you possibly win a really cool prize like a weekend at a nearby Airbnb, but you are supporting an organization that provides emergency overnight shelter for women during hypothermia season.

The primary focus at Rainbow house is to provide a safe and warm place for the women they serve during the coldest months of the year. They work with women at the very beginning of their transition out of homelessness and into a better quality of life.

During the height of the pandemic the shelter transformed into 24 hour shelter. As November approaches and transmission numbers in Montgomery County begin to decrease once again, Rainbow place will once again go to back to an overnight shelter beginning November 1 through the end of March.

A home for tonight, hope for tomorrow.—Rainbow Place Mission

Rainbow Place provides shelter for 28 women. The guests receive a warm, safe place to sleep, a hot dinner and breakfast, and a bag lunch. Guests also have access to showers and laundry facilities. While the women wash their personal clothing, the volunteers wash the linens for their guests.

During their stay, the women have access to case management and referrals to local social services and treatment programs.

Rainbow Place shelters women who are 18 years of age or older and meet the definition of homeless. One is considered homeless if, without HUD assistance they would have to spend the night in a homeless shelter or in a place not meant for human habitation. Clients must be referred by the Montgomery County Crisis Center (240-777-4000).

Rainbow Place shelter was accepted into the Catalogue for Philanthropy’s 2021-22 Class as “One of the Best” local nonprofits.

You can help them continue their work by participating in their online basket raffle.

“Many prizes! Many winners. All to benefit Rainbow Place Shelter!”—Rainbow Place Online Basket Raffle

One of the fundraisers for Rainbow Place Shelter is their online basket raffle. You buy a ticket, or as many tickets as you would like, and put them toward the prizes you are most interested in winning. On October 25th, right before the beginning of the 2021-2022 season, Rainbow Place will hold a drawing and announce the lucky winners.

Rainbow Place cannot ship the items and participants will have to either pick them up at the shelter or a place of mutual convenience.
