Cowboys' Second Half Surge Stings Yellow Jackets

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons’ men’s basketball team outscored LeTourneau 47-30 in the second half and picked up a big 76-64 American Southwest Conference win on Thursday night at the Mabee Complex.

Steven Quinn tied his career-high with 31 points, including 19 in the second half. With the game tied at 51, the Cowboys used an 18-4 run over 5:48 to open a 69-55 lead with 4:19 to play. Quinn had 10 points in the run and Jordyn Vicente added six.

LeTourneau opened a 27-18 lead in the first half with 5:05 to play. HSU was able to narrow the gap to 34-29 at halftime.

In the second half, both teams came out hot and the game was tied at 51 when HSU made its decisive run.

Quinn was joined in double figures by Will Bartoszek with 14 points, Austin Brewer added a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds and Vicente added 10 points.

Deonte Jackson led LeTourneau with 25 points and Warren Richardson had 11 points and 16 rebounds. Walker Blaine added 10 points.

HSU overcame a 44-31 disadvantage in rebounding by forcing 25 turnovers. The Cowboys turned those 25 turnovers into a 26-11 advantage in points off turnovers.

Defensively, the Cowboys were able to shut down LeTourneau’s 3-point game holding them to 5-of-22 from behind the arc. HSU was 6-for-10 behind the arc.

The Cowboys are now 3-3 on the year and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference action. LeTourneau fell to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in league play. HSU will host East Texas Baptist on Saturday at 3 p.m.
