Who Plays Kayla?
Kayla was first portrayed by Catherine Mary Stewart back in January 1982 when the character was first debuted. After leaving the drama in December 1983, it took until May 1986 for DAYS to replace the role with actress Mary Beth Evans.
Her first appearance on the program ran until May 1992, but she returned for a second time from June 2006 until February 2009. Evans made a comeback in 2010 and continued to play Kayla until her contract was renewed in 2015.
Castings
Actress Catherine Mary Stewart created the character on January 18, 1982, and she performed in it up until December 14, 1983. In 1986, Mary Beth Evans, an actress, takes over the part.
From May 23, 1986, through May 26, 1992, she acted in the part. On June 12, 2006, Mary Beth Evans took over as Kayla once more. She dropped off canvas on February 17, 2009, the day she announced her departure from the serial.
She came back to reprise her role as Kayla from June 18 to June 29, 2010 and from September 23, 2010, to February 15, 2011.
How Was Kayla Introduced?
In 1982, Kayla made her television debut as Roman Brady's younger sister and a nurse employed at University Hospital. Mike Horton and Kayla previously dated, in addition to dating David Banning.
Chris Kositchek, with whom she is involved, causes her to lose her virginity. However, when Chris was unable to commit to her in 1983, Kayla left the area.
After Steve Johnson is recruited to frighten her away from Cleveland, Kayla makes a return to Salem in 1986 with Mary Beth Evans playing the part. Kayla opens a low-income clinic on the riverfront after accepting a job offer from Tom Horton and keeps running with Steve.
When Britta Englund, Steve's old lover, is murdered, the two go on the run together after helping orphans Max and Frankie Brady find a home with Kayla's parents.
The "Three Knives" tattoos that Steve, Bo, and Britta all share become a crucial piece of the puzzle when Orpheus kidnaps Marlena, and Steve and Kayla fly to Stockholm to assist Roman in solving the case.
Concluding Thoughts
Later on in the year, when Steve is accused of killing Senator Harper Deveraux, Kayla flees with him. When they get back to Salem, Steve and Kayla finally have their first kiss.
Harper hires Kayla to care for his son Jack Deveraux after Steve is given the all-clear. Jack, a longtime acquaintance of Kayla's, develops feelings for her. Steve is aware of the joy Kayla brings to Jack, who is secretly another sibling Jo Johnson had given up for adoption, while he is dying.
Kayla marries Jack in the hopes that it will improve Steve's health after she is devastated by his rejection. Harper starts poisoning Kayla after being led to believe that she is aware of Jack's past secret. She is on the verge of death until Steve saves her.
They are back together, but they decide not to tell Jack until after he has been elected to the town council. But on election night, Jack learns about the relationship and, furious, rapes Kayla. Even after Kayla confronts Jack on the witness stand and accuses him of rape, Jack just receives a slap on the wrist as a result of a plea agreement.
