Arizona State Fair Kicks Off This Weekend

It is that time of year. The weather is beginning to cool down, autumn is right around the corner, and the Arizona State Fair will kick off this coming Friday. With plenty of food, fun, and musical acts, it doesn’t matter if you go to the fair annually, or this is your first time, there’s a bit of something for everyone at the fair in Phoenix.

The Arizona State Fair 2023 begins this Friday, September 22, and will run all the way through until October 29. So don’t worry if you’re not able to make it on opening day. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to stop by.

The Concert Series will have six performers taking the main stage, but these musicians will not make appearances until October when the chance of monsoon rains and heat has abided. This year, you can check out Walker Hayes on October 13, Becky G the 14, Ne-Yo on October 20, Brothers Osborn the 21, Violent Femmes on October 27, and Carly Pearce the 28.

Of course, there’s so much more to the fair than just musical acts, there will be rides, artisan collections, plenty of animal displays, and there are even activities you can submit your own material to. If you’re a Photographer there is a Photography show, and there will also be a student art show as well. If you are interested in taking part and submitting your work to the fair, make sure to check out the Arizona State Fair website to learn how you can enter.

Craving something loud but don’t want to stop by one of the musical acts? A monster truck rally will be held during the opening weekend. On September 22, 23, and 24 the show starts at 7:30 PM.

If you are a food lover this is one of the ultimate events held anywhere in the state. There are slated to be 86 different food vendors spread around the fairgrounds. Some of the fast food options include the classics like funnel cakes, hand-dipped corn dogs, Dole whipped goodies, and all the fried goodness you can sample. You’ll also be able to chow down on Chicago Style Hot Dogs, tacos, chicken sandwiches, licorice, and even turkey legs wrapped in bacon.

Local Restaurant Hit With 7 Health Violations

There is no shortage of eating options around Tucson. You can find traditional, upscale, fusions, and nearly anything else you might have a craving for. Well, the idea of wrapping meat with some kind of bread has been around for centuries, mostly as a means of protecting cooked meat (and helping it last longer) while traveling. The concept spread from the Middle East and made it to the Western Hemisphere via the Spanish. As for the taco, while there isn’t a specific “ah-ha” moment of creation, it is believed to have originated in 18th-century Mexican silver mines, where small, rolled-up stickers of dynamite were referred to as tacos (they essentially looked like taquitos). In the decades to follow, taco restaurants have spread throughout the Southwestern United States, and now one Phoenix-based restaurant is expanding to its third location in the Valley.

Local Restaurant Chain Opening New Location

Just about every culture has some kind of historical connection to meats prepared and then wrapped in bread. Cooking the meat, then covering it in an edible dough both protected the meat and helped it last longer, which was important in an age without refrigeration and when individuals were traveling for weeks (or months) and fresh food wasn’t readily available. Historically, this method of transporting meat originated in the Middle East, before spreading through Europe. The empanada was birthed in Spain (then passed to the Americas, where most countries make a different variation of the food), and in England, it became known as a pasty. Now, a popular restaurant in metro Phoenix has plans on making its own expansion in the Valley.

Typically, chain and franchise restaurants tend to excel at food safety, due to all the safeguards in place at the corporate level and what could happen to the manager and regional owners should the restaurant fail to perform up to the established standards. Eggs are a vital ingredient for restaurants throughout greater Tucson. Whether for baked goods or for making a breakfast omelet, eggs are, generally speaking, inexpensive (when compared to other proteins) and readily available. Recently, the state of Arizona’s Department of Agriculture passed a law, requiring all egg-laying hens to receive a bit of extra space to make their lives at least a little more comfortable.
