When thinking of chicken and waffles, your thoughts likely drift to Atlanta, the food styling’s birthplace, as well as the Deep South. After all, fried chicken is a culinary staple in the region. However, as other regions around the United States have embraced the combination of salty and fatty fried chicken with the sweetness of maple syrup-covered waffles, new variations of the food have popped into existence. In Kansas City, one particular restaurant chain has fully reinvented what it is to eat chicken and waffles, and now the company is making the move to Tucson.

Chick-in Waffle is all about the chicken game, but it is so much more than just offering fried chicken on waffles. You will find combos and flavors here you probably haven’t seen before. For starters, maybe you want to take your chicken and waffles on the go, but setting a heaping plate of the food on your lap isn’t an option. Well, at Chick-in Waffle there are in-house waffle cones made, filled not with ice cream, but with the fried chicken goodness, and then topped with the sauce and seasoning of your choice. So, whether you want it spicy or sweet, tangy or salty, you can have it made your way, all while you’re still able to drive home with one hand on the wheel and the other on your waffle cone.

Of course, you will find traditional chicken and waffles, although the waffles are of a unique design. It looks more like a Chinese checker's board than your traditional Belgian waffle. Beyond this, you can opt for a classic chicken sandwich, or grab a plate full of chicken wings, dripping with your favorite seasoning and sauce.

The move to Arizona is rather surprising for Chick-in Waffle. While based out of Kansas City, Missouri, the restaurant previously only had locations in KC. However, it has decided to jump over several states and settle in Arizona. The first, which will have its grand opening on Friday, May 19, will be located at 5524 East Grant Road. It will also have a drive-through built into the restaurant, so you don’t even have to leave your car. Two other Arizona locations are in the works, including in downtown Phoenix as well as Mesa, but those exact addresses have not yet been finalized (and we will announce them accordingly).

For now, if you’re hungry for some fried chicken, and want to experience it combined with unique waffles (and waffle cones), stop by the grand opening of Chick-in Waffle when you get a chance.
