It has not been a good year for the folks over at Matty G’s Steakburgers, the once-popular local burger joint chain. Just last month, one of the remaining restaurants closed up shop. Now the combo Matty G’s Steakburgers and Lobsa’ Rolls has officially closed its doors as well. This location has a relatively short shelf life of just three years (the other closed location barely squeaked out half a year of serving customers). And now, it is difficult to determine what will happen with the rest of the metro Phoenix burger chain.

There wasn’t much fanfare with the closure of the second restaurant, located at 6025 North 16th Street in Phoenix. The restaurant just kind of faded into the night and switched off the lights. Regulars of the restaurant were informed, but Matty G’s didn’t make any kind of formal announcement in public or on any of its social media platforms (it didn’t have much of an announcement for the previous closure either). Both restaurant closures have been attributed to the declining health of the owner, Matt Gorman, so whether or not this will affect additional locations in the coming months is impossible to determine.

Despite offering little warning to the general public, this closure has been known by the owner for some time now. In fact, there is already another restaurant prepared to take over the lease, so this has been something in the works for some time now.

If you are a fan of Matty G’s Steakburgers you will still have a few other options around greater Phoenix. The classic Matty G’s Steakburgers location in Mesa is still up and running. If you want the combo Steakburgers and Lobsa’ Rolls locations, the restaurants in Chandler and Gilbert are also still serving customers. If you find yourself venturing north, a location in downtown Flagstaff is also whipping up burgers and lobster rolls.

These locations will continue to serve up one of the largest burger menus you will find, as there are over 20 different specialty burgers, and, of course, you are also able to customize your own burger, if you are not feeling one of the sports-named pre-designed burgers. The newer lobster roll menu is on the smaller side, so it should prove easier to order a seafood roll. Here you’ll find the Red Legs (lobster salad, crab, and shrimp), Ice Man (lobster salad and shrimp), Black Bears (lobster salad, blue crab, crab, and shrimp), and The Dominator (blue crab, and crab)
