Mexican restaurants are a-dime-a-dozen in metro Phoenix. Not to say there aren’t locations around the Valley that offer up some incredible flavors and authentic tastes, but it’s not exactly difficult to find a unique Mexican joint. Because of this, when one does open offering a different take on classic Mexican food, it is well worth mentioning. It may also provide residents who have struggled to find food that fits into dietary requirements an opportunity to finally enjoy some of the delicious food options that are available. With a new opening that launched just last week, there is a new entry into the world of Mexican food in greater Phoenix that will help fill a surprisingly large void.
Tucked off into a corner of Gilbert, Papa Locos Tacos and Burgers is one of the few halal Mexican restaurants now serving food in the region. Papa Locos has an established track record of producing quality, halal food for locals. This is the third location to open in the state, with the other two located in Tucson and Nogales.
Every menu item available at Papa Locos Tacos and Burgers is halal, so whether you are required by your religion to consume halal foods, or you’re just looking for a unique take on Mexican cuisine, you will find both throughout the menu.
The restaurant is open for breakfast through dinner, with plenty of options to choose from. If you’re interested in breakfast, you can find the classic huevos rancheros, which feature crispy corn tortillas topped off with refried beans, eggs, and covered in the house ranchero salsa and cheese. Other breakfast items include burritos, huevos con chorizo, and chilaquiles. Looking for appetizers? Papa Locos Tacos and Burgers have you covered with their lineup of quesadillas, wet nachos, queso fundido, and even a taco salad. But what about some of the namesake tacos and burritos? You will find various street tacos of beef, chicken, or fish available, plus tacos especial birria, and la carta street tacos while the burger menu features the Arizona Dreaming Burger (double meat, double cheese, double bacon, plus lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, and mayo) as well as the Cowboy Burger (beef patty, bacon, cheese, onion rings, and BBQ sauce).
Located at 743 South Lindsay Road (Suite C101), the restaurant is open Monday through Thursday, from 10 AM until 8 PM, on Friday and Saturday from 9 AM until 9 PM, and on Sunday from 9 AM until 8 PM.
