Sometimes figuring out what everyone wants to eat can be a bit of a chore. Unless you head out to a mall food court, someone will likely be disappointed with the final decision on the restaurant. That is unless you decide to go to a joint that specializes in an assortment of foods, including several from various culinary styles you wouldn’t normally find offered in the same destination. At one new restaurant that opened this month in Tucson, you’ll find both Mexican and sushi, all rolled into one unique dining experience.
It’s a crossover you don’t typically expect to find (although this author has been to some similar concepts in Georgia that went by the name of “Taco Sushi”), and Mr. Patron is hoping it helps solve the issue of trying to decide who in the family will be pleased with the restaurant you go to, and who in the family will be disappointed.
Most of everything on the menu has a nod to both Mexican and Japanese culinary styles, by blending Japanese flavors into tacos and tostadas, while guests will also find Mexican-inspired sushi rolls.
The menu is broken down into both “Mexican” and “Japanese” food styles. Under the Tostadas menu, you will find Shrimp (cooked with cucumber, red onion, and avocado), Tuna (served with house sauce, red onion, cucumber, and avocado, covered in a chipotle dressing), as well as the Mr. Patron (cooked shrimp, raw shrimp, and imitation crab served with cucumber and the house sauce). Want a burro? You can order a Tradicional (beef, mayonnaise, avocado, and tomato), or a Mar Y Tierra (beef, Mr. Patron’s shrimp, mayonnaise, mozzarella cheese, avocado, and tomato).
But what about the sushi rolls? The Signature Rolls include the Culichi Roll (shrimp, cucumber, avocado, cream cheese, covered in avocado and tajin, and filled with breaded shrimp and Mr. Patron sauce), the Explosion Roll (cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber stuffed roll, covered in imitation crab salad and breaded shrimp with eel sauce), as well as the Spicy Tuna Roll (spicy tuna, cream cheese, cucumber, and avocado stuffing, while decorated with a lime twist).
The restaurant does have daily food and drink specials, which can range from discounted tacos to a few dollars off specific rolls and drinks. Mr. Patron is located at 5754 East 22nd Street here in Tucson. Set hours have not been released, although the restaurant is open seven days a week, so feel free to stop by for lunch or dinner.
