For non-vegetarians and vegans, bacon has a way of making just about anything taste better. There’s something about the crunchy, salty meat that brings high levels of both protein and fat that can elevate nearly everything it touches. Whether adding bacon to a burger or crumbling it into salads, as comedian Jim Gaffigan once said, “bacon is like the magic pixie dust of food.” At a new burrito restaurant opening in the Phoenix area, the love of bacon is taken to an entirely new level.
Tucked away into a smaller shopping outlet, Tatemados Tacos al Carbon is opening its doors at 2919 North 59th Avenue in Phoenix. While it brings several traditional ingredients and styles with its tacos and other offerings, what truly sets it apart is its bacon roll, which is a full-sized tortilla burrito that, once completed, is fully externally wrapped in bacon.
The external bacon wrap brings that added layer of texture and taste to the outside of the burrito. Instead of waiting for the fats of the cheese and proteins of the steak inside the burrito to hit your taste buds after biting through the flour tortilla, all of that meaty goodness will explode on your taste buds instantly as you chomp down on the bacon.
Of course, you don’t need to go for the bacon roll, as there are plenty of other options. Perhaps you opt for the regular burrito, which is made in a Sonoran style. On top of this, the restaurant also offers its namesake, the Tatemado taco and burrito. These tacos and burritos are made with a signature Angus carne asada, which is roasted directly over mesquite charcoal, which helps infuse a sweet, smokey flavor into the meat. From there, both tacos and burritos received toppings including Anaheim green chile, and mozzarella cheese. You can also try the roast beef tacos and other goodies found on the menu.
At the time of this writing the restaurant’s website was not functioning, but you learn more about the restaurant by checking out its Yelp page. As there are no other current forms of social media available for the restaurant (features that will likely change in the coming days), most of the current information about the restaurant is on the Yelp service. This includes the restaurant’s hours, which are 10 AM until 10 PM, seven days a week. So if you’re hungry for some bacon (and burritos), make sure to head on out to the new joint and try it out.
