When restaurants from out of state make the move to Arizona, it’s typically in the form of a pizza joint, or a taco restaurant because both are easily set up and instantly have a built-in following. Of course, there are times when unique restaurants make the trek to Arizona while bringing with them a unique menu and eating experience. Restaurant owners that see the growth taking place throughout metro Phoenix recognize the potential and the expanding client base. That is exactly why a popular Houston restaurant has decided to cross out of the Lone Star State and set up roots right in the heart of the Copper State.

Federal American Grill is a popular restaurant that has a rather unique history behind it. Owner Matt Brice isn’t a Texan by birth, but instead originally hails from Boston. He started to work in the restaurant business at the early age of 13 when he was able to convince the owners of a local diner to let him help out in the kitchen (at the time he was tired of his paperboy route and wanted something different). After working his way up he eventually received a basketball scholarship at Worchester State University (in Massachusetts), where he majored in business. While he studied, he never lost his love of food. He combined his passion for business and food into working for Chili’s corporate, switched over to Ruth’s Hospitality Group (where he became the youngest general manager in the history of the company), and then took his success to Texas where he opened a number of restaurants. By 2013, he had opened Federal American Grill, naming it for his Texas bride’s family business, Federal Flange, a restaurant they had run for nearly 60 years.

Federal American Grill proved especially popular around greater Houston, and now, Matt Brice is making the move and opening a new location in Scottsdale. While the announcement for this restaurant came months ago, the location is now set, as well as all the other goodies interested individuals will need to pay the American grill a visit.

Located at 7000 East Mayo Blvd (building 27), the restaurant is open Monday through Thursday, from 11 AM until 10 PM, on Friday and Saturday from 11 AM until 11 PM, and on Sunday from 10 AM until 9 PM. There is a special brunch menu available on Saturday from 11 AM until 3 PM and on Sunday from 10 AM until 3 PM.
