There’s no stopping the progress of fried chicken sandwiches. It is one of the fastest-growing segments of the fast food industry, with new chains popping up as well as current chains expanding at record rates. What was once niche restaurants located in smaller markets has changed, seemingly overnight, all for the betterment of those who love a quality chicken sandwich. And for residents in metro Phoenix, a new location has just opened up in the past week.

Raising Cane’s officially opened its 22nd restaurant in metro Phoenix (and 29th overall in the state) on Wednesday, September 7 on the north side of Phoenix. Located at 2804 West Bell Road, this opening is part of the franchise’s master plan of opening 100 new restaurants in 2022 alone. Thanks to the quick expansion, the restaurant chain now has over 700 locations spread throughout 35 states as well as several international destinations.

Raising Cane’s first opened up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to serve students attending Louisiana State University. In fact, Craig Silvey and Todd Graves had attended business school at LSU and created a business plan to open a fried chicken restaurant for a class project. The professor ended up rejecting the plan and investors were not interested. So, the pair took random jobs around the country, including working as a fisher for sockeye in Alaska, to earn enough money to open their first joint back in 1991. The restaurant is named after Graves’ dog, a yellow lab with the name Raising Cane. A yellow lab continues to be the restaurant’s official mascot.

Everything on the menu is all about chicken. It really comes down to how guests want their chicken prepared. There is the Box Combo, the 3 Finger Combo, and the Caniac Combo, all of which feature chicken strips, crinkle-cut fries, Texas Toast, coleslaw, as well as a serving of the restaurant’s popular Cane Sauce. For guests who would rather dine on a crispy chicken sandwich, there is the Sandwich Combo. Unlike other restaurants that serve one large chicken breast, at Raising Cane’s, the restaurant uses three chicken fingers within the sandwich. This ensures more fried batter surface area as well as an enhanced crunch. It also helps the chain avoid the dreaded dried-out chicken breast, which is more likely to happen when working with larger, thicken pieces of meat. With the Sandwich Combo, guests will also receive crinkle-cut fries, as well as a serving of Cane’s sauce.

The new location in north Phoenix is open seven days a week, from 9 AM  until midnight.
