When it comes to feeding the masses quickly, there’s nothing like a great big heaping bowl of pasta. It’s affordable, effective, and perfect for any day of the week. However, sometimes time is short for even pasta. Whether work runs long or there’s not much time between activities, picking up a box of pasta and a jar of marinara isn’t always an option. That is why one of the newest restaurants to open here in Tucson is such a welcome one.

By The Bucket is a Phoenix-area restaurant that popped up not too long ago and, in just a few short years, started to spread throughout the Valley. Now, it has made the short drive south to the Old Pueblo and is offering residents here an easy and affordable alternative to making spaghetti at home.

The restaurant specializes in selling spaghetti “by the bucket”, with a few side options, but mostly it’s a simple, straightforward, spaghetti restaurant, designed specifically for people short on time and on funds.

The Small Bucket, also known as the Bambino, is a half-pound of spaghetti, topped with marinara, and comes with three pieces of garlic bread for $7.95. The Middle Bucket, or the Mezzano, is a pound of spaghetti with sauce, and a quarter loaf of garlic bread, for $10.95. Lastly, there is the Family Bucket (Famiglia), which is a pound and a half of pasta, marinara sauce, and a half loaf of garlic bread for $16.95.

Want to add meatballs to the order? Not a problem there either, as each two ounce meatball, which is made up of beef, pork, romano, and ricotta cheese costs $1.50 each. Guests can also order some New York-style cheesecake, full loaves of garlic bread, soft drinks, as well as cheesy bread (made with Boar’s Head mozzarella).

There’s nothing fancy about the meals, but it’s not supposed to be fancy. It’s a simple, quick restaurant that wants to help feed families and individuals with large appetites. There’s no need to phone ahead for the food. Guests can stop by, place their order, and leave the restaurant in a matter of minutes. And, for anyone who is a first responder and shows up in uniform, they instantly receive 15% off their entire order.

Most of the other By The Bucket restaurant locations are found around greater Phoenix, although a new location is coming to Flagstaff as well as Shawnee, Oklahoma. The new Tucson location can be found at 2130 North Kolb Road and is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 AM until 8 PM.
