There’s no arguing metro Phoenix has a surplus of Mexican restaurants, taco trucks, and burrito stands. Throw a dart out the window and you’re likely to hit some kind of establishment slinging various kinds of Mexican street food. However, that has yet to stop new restaurants from moving into the market. This includes chains located in regions you might not expect. In fact, the latest burrito addition to the Valley comes from a state that is anything but known for its tacos and burritos: New Jersey.
Bubbakoo’s Burritos offers a different take on the classic food style by combining the burrito with popular Americanized tastes. For example, there is a “Nashville Hot” burrito that is packed with fried chicken coated in Nashville spices and packed in a fresh tortilla with pickles and rice.
The original Bubbakoo’s Burritos opened in Point Pleasant, New Jersey all the way back in 2008. Since the initial launch, the chain has opened new restaurants in nearly a dozen states. Most of these restaurants are located in New Jersey, although others can be found in New Hampshire, Florida, Ohio, New York, and California. The Arizona location, which can be found at 2649 South Market Street (Suite 102) in Gilbert. The Gilbert restaurant is now open for dine-in, delivery, and pick-up orders. Currently, the hours of operation run from Monday to Thursday, 11 AM until 9 PM, and on Friday and Saturday from 11 AM until 10 PM. It is closed on Sundays.
When stopping off at Bubbakoo’s Burritos, guests have the option of ordering from one of the signature creations, or they can build their own burritos. The signature burritos include the Hibachi Steak and Shrimp Burrito, the SrirachaShredded Pork Nachos, General Tso’s Chicken Tacos, the Nashville Hot Chicken Burrito, Sweet chili Shrimp Tacos, Mango Habanero Grilled Chicken Taco Salad, Buffalo Beef Chiwawa, and Crispy Chicken Bacon Sriracha Ranch Quesadillas.
For those who are more interested in building their own meal, they are able to first choose their entree (a burrito or bowl, quesadilla, taco trio, nachos, taco salad, or chiwawa). From there, guests will select a protein, and then choose whatever toppings they might like to go with it. Protein options include chicken (grilled, shredded, or crispy), ground beef, shredded pork, bean and cheese, veggie patty, fajita-style, hibachi steak or shrimp, or double steak and shrimp. Guests can also order sides, such as chicken wings, tater tots, curly fries, and nachos.
