Sometimes there’s nothing like going to a familiar location and enjoying the food and drinks, all while watching a ball game. There’s a comfort level involved with it because you know what is on the menu, what drink specials will be on, and even what serving staff will be on hand. For one local sports bar, patrons of the restaurant will need to look elsewhere. That is for the duration of the summer at least.
Zipps Sports Grill has over a dozen locations around the Valley, making it one of the more prominent sports bar chains in metro Phoenix. However, some of these locations are starting to show their age, and management wants to spruce these locations up in order to not only keep up with the times but to remain competitive in the food and drink industry. That is why the north Scottsdale Zipps Sports Grill location will be closing for at least the summer, if not longer, as it undergoes an extensive renovation.
For fans of this location, Zipps promises the wait will be worth it. The restaurant recently acquired the lot next to it. The restaurant will expand its current footprint in order to absorb this available space, which in turn will make it the largest of any of the Zipps Sports Grills in the area.
The restaurant will remain open throughout the weekend, but it will officially close its doors to customers for the next several months on Monday. There is no official timetable for how long the renovation and expansion will take. However, there is hope it will be completed by the time football season starts, which is one of the busiest times for the sports bars.
The current location is 20 years old, but the expansion will bring a number of additional benefits for patrons of the restaurant. The expansion will include not only a larger and more comfortable dining space, but a larger bar, expanded cocktail area, a larger patio, more televisions, plus more games like billiards, shuffleboard, and golden tee.
In order to go out in its final weekend in style, there are a handful of specials offered to guests of the restaurant. This includes $2 domestic bottles, $3 premium bottles, $3 16oz drafts, $3 shots of any liquor (yes, any liquor that is served will cost only $3), and specialty craft 32oz drafts will cost $6. These specials are only for the Zipps Kirkland location, which is at Greenway Parkway and 64th Street in Scottsdale.
