Sometimes there’s just not enough time to stop into a local coffee shop, wait at the counter, and purchase a freshly brewed cup of coffee. Whether in a rush to make work on time, heading out to a children’s sporting event, or the mind is dragging and needs a little caffeinated pick-me-up, grabbing a quick cup of joe is a must. And while the national big chain coffee shop has a few drive-through locations, what happens when you want a quick alternative to Starbucks? Black Rock Coffee has you covered.
Black Rock Coffee Bar is Portland Oregon’s answer to Seattle’s Starbucks. The very first Black Rock Coffee opened in 2008. Since that time, it has expanded to over 100 locations spread mostly through the Pacific Coast and American Southwest (although it has made it out to Texas as well). In Arizona, the expansion continues, as the coffee chain is opening a drive-through only location a mile away from the Tucson International Airport. This is great news for anyone heading to the airport and needs some energy prior to boarding, and for those who have just landed and are fighting off jet lag.
Located at 2705 East Valencia Road, which is nestled between South Tucson Blvd and Country Club Road, it’s a prime location for travelers and locals who live out by the airport.
This is the third Tucson location, although the chain has spread rapidly in the metro Phoenix location, with 26 coffee shops (both sit-down and drive-through only), now in the Copper State. This new location will open on Friday, May 6th. This is the first drive-through-only location here in Tucson. The other two locations, at 1821 East Broadway, and 8605 East Golf Links Road, both provide dine-in options.
When using the drive-through, guests are able to place orders just as they would with any other drive-through establishment, or they are able to place an order ahead of time using the Black Rock Coffee Bar application. This helps trim away some of the wait time. Guests can even pay for the coffee through the app, allowing them to grab the coffee and go.
For anyone who has not yet been to one of the other two Black Rock Coffee Bar locations here in Tucson, there are a number of menu favorites, including the Caramel Blondie (caramel white mocha), Blackout (hazelnut mocha), Mexican Mocha (hints of vanilla, almond, and cinnamon), and the Jackhammer (vanilla mocha with an extra double shot).
