Even the most popular restaurants are not beholden to their locations. Sometimes it’s necessary to close up shop and make the transition to a different property. One local Tucson establishment has done just that. So fans of The Dutch Eatery & Refuge will need to be on the lookout before going out in search of the restaurant.

Earlier in the week, The Dutch Eatery & Refuge closed down shop for the last time at its University location. The restaurant spent the last five years here, serving everyone from tourists to college professors. However, for various reasons, the restaurant has decided to make the move out to Broadway.

The 5340 East Broadway location (the Craycroft intersection) will provide more room, not to mention it will make parking easier, so guests looking for an easy in-out restaurant will be able to add The Dutch Eatery to their list. In fact, unlike the previous location, where guests had to pay to park, there will be ample free parking. The space had been occupied by the former Pita Jungle. Since the closure, The Dutch Eatery has been renovating the interior and tweaking the exterior.

Fans of the restaurant will need to wait a few weeks though. There will be some downtime between the closure of the University location and the grand opening of the Broadway location, which is currently penciled in for Saturday, April 16.

There will be more interior space, which allows the restaurant to put on more events. Opening night, for example, features the Wild Game and Beer Dinner (beer provided by local Dragoon Brewing Company). It will be a five-course meal that does require a reservation. Cost for the limited seating is $68.

While that is for opening night, there are other events planned that go well into May, with more likely to be added to the schedule.

The Dutch Eatery & Refuge is the brainchild of Marcus and Nicole van Winden. Nicole is a Tucson local that attended the University of Arizona. Marcus, however, was born in Holland and attended the European Master Chefs culinary school. He served as the Fine Dining Chef for Holland America Cruise Line, which is where he met Nicole, who was serving as the Assistant Cruise Director & Event Planner for the cruise line.

The Dutch features both a lunch and dinner menu. There is also a Chef’s Table menu, where Marcu will specially create a five to seven-course menu specifically for the guest.
