The metro Phoenix area of Arizona is home to a number of local chains. Many of these restaurants started with a single location, which slowly took root and grew into something much larger. That is exactly the case with Someburros, as the restaurant is looking to expand even further in 2022.

Someburros recently announced it has plans to open two new restaurants in West Valley at some point this year, with locations specifically in Peoria and Goodyear. Both locations will share similar design details as other restaurants in the chain, including available drive-through windows and a large, 3,600 dining room.

Back in 1972, the Vasquez Family opened their very first restaurant in South Phoenix, using family recipes that had been handed down for generations. The original restaurant, called Poncho’s, served up these family recipes, which featured a Sonoran-style of Mexican food.

Eventually, after dipping their toes into the restaurant business, Isabel and her husband’s son George decided to open a new restaurant. This was the very first Someburros, which opened its doors to the public in 1986. Over the years, the restaurant has continually gained new patrons and has expanded into other regions around The Valley. Now, most of the daily operations are handled by George and his wife Mary’s children and even grandchildren.

If you haven’t been to any of the current locations around metro Phoenix, there are plenty of options, so chances are there is one close to you. The Mesa restaurant, located at 2836 Signal Butte Road is the latest to open. Other locations include one at 101 East Baseline Road in Tempe, one at 1335 East Baseline Road in Gilbert, another at 3461 West Frye Road in Chandler, and numerous others around Gilbert, Tempe, and Phoenix. There are even locations out in Queen Creek and Flagstaff, although the restaurant has not yet made it south to Tucson (which already has a number of its own local chain Mexican restaurants).

The family also owns another restaurant in Gilbert, called Isabel’s Amor.

There is no official date yet as to when the Goodyear and Peoria restaurants will open. Currently, construction work is taking place, so the official openings are a few months out. The best way to know when the restaurants are set to open is to follow Someburros on their Facebook page. For anyone interested in applying for a job, applications are accepted directly through the Someburros website
