New Goth Restaurant Opens With Unique Menu

There are plenty of upscale restaurants dotting the Phoenix scene, giving patrons plenty of opportunities to wine-and-dine to their heart's content. But what happens when something else is desired? When a different vibe is wanted? Often that is a little more challenging to find. Well, that is all about to change, with the punk-rock meets goth restaurant “Aftermath” opening up in uptown Phoenix. 

Charles Barber and Dave Bowman, two men who have been working in the metro Phoenix restaurant scene for some time now, decided to collaborate on a new restaurant theme, bringing the divvy, gritty concept to life. The restaurant isn’t just for the hard rockers though. The black and white decor with dim lighting (often by candles), provides plenty of date-night opportunities. Plus, the sparsely lit interior (outside of the table lighting), helps distance each group of guests from the next, creating an almost curtain of shadows around every table. 

The music is also toned down, covering up the clinks and clanks of preparing food and patrons eating, but other than this it is a fine location to hold conversations with friends or significant others. And despite the goth vibe presentation, the music is more subdued. Of course, it is the food that will ultimately bring patrons back. Some of the highlights include beef fat fries, bone marrow popcorn, as well as charred Brussel's sprouts, or grilled hamachi collar. Dining entrees are priced anywhere between $18 and $42 while bar snacks are set at $6. If you’re looking for tapas options, shareable plates run anywhere from $12 to $19. 

In addition to the menu, there is a select cocktail menu featuring several classic cocktails, including an Old Fashioned (made with Buffalo Trace Bourbon), a Highball, Sidecar, Baller Sour, and a Marigold. This is more of a cocktail and wine location than a draft beer destination, as there will be five or six rotating beers on tap (currently patrons will find a beer by Alesmith, as well as several IPAs).

Should all go well, there are plans to expand Aftermath, both at its current location of 1534 East Bethany Home Road in Phoenix, as well as a possible second location in Gilbert. The in-house growth will include an eventual oyster bar and a second dining room. 

If you are interested in stopping by Aftermath and checking out the interesting decor and decidedly different vibe, the restaurant is open from 5 PM until 10 PM on Wednesday through Saturday. The restaurant is closed from Sunday through Tuesday.
