Opening a new restaurant here in Tucson has grown increasingly more difficult in recent months. Many of the new establishments have been in the works since before the pandemic, and many have run into numerous problems along the way. From problems receiving necessary materials due to shipping shortages to finding enough workers to staff a restaurant, few things have worked out in favor of local restaurants. And yet, despite that, Jeffrey Flores, his wife Auxi Navarro, and his siblings Keila and Miguel, have moved forward with the opening of not one but two restaurants.

Tucked into the south-side of Tucson at 3253 East Valencia Road, the restaurant has been in the works for some time, yet the opening has continually been delayed due to one reason or another. But now, Acai Paradise and Flaps and Racks will open this Monday, November 22.

The four owners are not new to the world of restaurants here in Tucson. In fact, just across the street patrons can find Flore’s Los Betos. He and his brother Miguel opened the restaurant shortly after arriving in Tucson from Puerto Rico over two decades ago.

The location of the new joint restaurants will be housed in a brand-new plaza. The construction of the plaza allowed the four family members the chance to sign a lease for the property. Being across the street from Flore’s Los Betos will help make managing the restaurants easier, which, with the limited staff, is something the owners were looking for.

Flaps and Racks will be a wings and ribs-centric restaurant, although guests will find other menu items to satisfy their food cravings. And for those who already have a favorite wing joint in town, Flaps and Racks is set to have some of the more unusual flavors that are not available anywhere else. The flavors include everything from wings coated in a sauce featuring pork chorizo bits, as well as a sweet cinnamon sauce with just a hint of spice to give it extra intrigue.

As for Acai Paradise, it will provide patrons with a range of healthy dining options, including smoothies, a juice bar, plus grain and fruit bowls for that extra hit of protein and energy. Both locations are now officially open and ready to serve customers. So, if you’re interested in trying one of the unique wing flavors, or you have been craving something fresh and nutritious, head on out to 3253 East Valencia Road and give the new locations a try.
