Stop Cooking! Visit the Food Truck Rally Instead

Greyson F

At this point in the pandemic, you’re probably tired of cooking. There are only so many staple recipes you can go through before you start getting creative, and creativity in the kitchen doesn’t always churn out the best results.

Perhaps you’ve managed to order in some food from local restaurants, or maybe you feel comfortable with stopping into one of the socially distanced locations around greater Tucson. Even so, you have limited options and it’s difficult to take the family out or to go to someplace that has food that everyone will like.

With everything going on, why not skip cooking for an evening and head out to the Food Truck Rally? The Food Truck Rally is a gathering of local food truck owners where they will all sling out their best and most delicious food. All you need to do is decide which one to go to (or, if you’re feeling adventurous, try them all).

Food truck owners have been hit hard, much like the rest of the restaurant industry. However, while a food truck does have unlimited outdoor seating, these businesses function primarily as a food provider for those leaving the bar, visiting certain non-food breweries, or for other events. Because all of those other events, locations, and bars have been affected, food trucks have found it difficult to survive the pandemic, so these kinds of events are essential in the survival of many of these locally owned businesses.

For the Food Truck Rally, which takes place Wednesday, April 21s and runs from 4:30 PM until 7:30 PM at the Continental Plaza Shopping Center in Green Valley, this is an important way to make money and to bring lovers of food together.

Seating will be available in the Plaza Courtyard, although the seating is limited. Thankfully, you’ll be able to take the food to go if you’d like, or you can find one of the local parks and enjoy your food there.

Currently, Cotton Family BBQ, Baked, Hot Pops Kettle Corn, Meatball Madness, Maui Wowi, and Fiesta Filipina are all taking part in the Food Truck Rally, although there will be more announced later (some are still determining their schedules and, thankfully, it is easy enough for them to set up shop one they know they will be able to attend).

Green Valley and the Continental Plaza Shopping Center usually puts on at least one Food Truck Rally a month, so if you are able to stop by and enjoy it, there will be another event taking place in May. Additionally, there are other food events you can stop by. To stay up to date on the latest and food truck rallies that are put on not only here, but in other areas around greater Tucson, make sure to follow the Food Truck Rally Facebook page. Here you will find all the information you need to stay up to date on what’s going on and where to go.

There are often different food trucks taking part in these different events, which makes it the perfect chance to sample some of your favorites while discovering new food trucks as well. And, as the weather gets warmer out you will want to take advantage of some of the frozen dessert trucks that come out, including Silver Scoops AZ Ice Cream.

And if you have a favorite food truck that does not take part in the rally, feel free to let them know. It’s possible they don’t know about the rally or the other events that are going on. Both Green Valley and the Continental Plaza Shopping Center would love to have them.
