A long-sought “visit house” where foster children and their parents can get together under supervision has opened in Bucks County PA, where in November 2021 alone, officials saw 3,800 children from 2,190 families.

“It took years of planning but we’re thrilled to finally make this option available,” said Marjorie McKeone, director, Bucks County Children & Youth Social Services Agency (C&Y). “We always want to assist and support our families.”

The county’s first visit home – a $330,000 facility in Middletown Township -- provides a long-needed space where foster children and their parents can see each other and where the families under review can meet with social workers, according to C&Y officials. They said federal funds allocated under the Family First Act of 2018 covered purchase of the site seen as in a convenient location in Lower Bucks County.

“Making the trip to our offices in Doylestown can be a stumbling block for our families in Lower Bucks, so we’ve talked about the idea of this ‘visit house’ for quite some time,” said McKeone.

The building will be staffed with C&Y employees, as well as a representative from Human Services Hub of Doylestown, a central resource connecting families and social services, according to McKeone: Said she: “We always want to support our families in their homes, but unfortunately that’s just not always possible.”

The county C&Y serves thousands of children and families, like the 3,800 kids seen last November, said Bucks County Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia, and a robust services system supports them.

“Whether we’re talking about the Hub, our police co-responders program or our Children & Youth visit house, the Bucks County Human Services Division has been making huge strides in getting help and support to the most vulnerable people in our community.”
