Krateoberfest has been canceled. The event, which was scheduled to take place Saturday, October 9th, was canned due to "dangerous" weather concerns. The event was due to occur at the Grove Theater in Wesley Chapel, Florida, and had been planned for months.
The event planners promised a refund in a message sent to customers who had prepurchased tickets saying:
Due to potential dangerous weather concerns, we are sad to announce that Krateoberfest will be postponed for the safety and security of everyone involved. These unforeseen circumstances have our team devastated as we have been working for months to bring this amazing, unique outdoor event to life to the Grove. It is always our top priority to provide all of our guests with an experience that’s not only FUN, but also SAFE. All attendees will receive 100% refund - no action will be necessary & will be processed within 48-72 hours. We appreciate your understanding in this matter, and look forward to announcing a new date as soon as we can.
The event was originally set to feature food offerings, over a hundred different kinds of beer from twenty-five local breweries. There is no word on when the rescheduled date might take place.
Some customers have raised questions over the excuse used to cancel the event. While there is rain in the forecast for Friday in the Tampa area, the weather forecast for Saturday does not indicate the presence of any potentially dangerous weather. The cancellation came as a surprise to many, especially since the tickets claimed that the event was going to take place rain or shine.
The forecast calls for only 30 minutes of rain and a 24% chance of thunderstorms. This is a typical forecast for Florida that usually does not cause events months in the works to be canceled. This caused some irritated customers to question the event's real motives for being canned on the event's Facebook page which has since been marked as canceled. The forecast for the evening calls for mostly clear skies.
If you still want to get your Octoberfest fill there is an event happening this weekend in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park featuring food, drinks, music, and games.
