Scott Thompson survived for five hours in the ocean thanks to a harbor seal who brought him hope and much-needed help.
When Scott Thompson fell out of his boat, far away from land, he thought that he was going to die. Imagining his wife and children living their lives without him was heartbreaking but it almost wasn't enough to keep him alive in the freezing Santa Barbra Channel.
He wasn't thinking about sharks or anything killing him in the water except for the frigid temperatures as he swam for his life, his boat getting further and further away. Scott was only thinking about his wife and children and hoping that he would be alive long enough to get to some kind of shelter so that he wouldn't drown.
When he heard a splash in the ocean his mind went to the worst possible scenario - a shark may be in the water with him. However, when he looked over he saw a harbor seal which he thinks was an "angel" sent to save his life.
As he swam and got tired, the harbor seal would swim underneath him, nudging his legs like a dog would nudge your leg. The seal swam with him, making sure that Scott was conscious, that he would make it to safety.
Scott swam for five hours with the seal until he reached the nearest oil platform. When he got there, oil workers rendered aid until the coast guard could come to his rescue.
Scott is so thankful for his "angel" - the sweet seal who saved his life.
