In LaGrange, Georgia, Anthony Talley saw an opportunity for positivity and change in his community. That's when he started $1 Thursday's, where every Thursday he would find somebody a person in need and fundraise money for them.
During his first fundraiser, he ended up collecting $120 for a friend who was going through hard times. Talley explained, "Most people think that's not a lot. But when you're down bad, that could be everything."
Next, he raised $1,400 for a man battling lupus. Then he raised another $2,220 for a local barber battling COVID-19. And then $8,000 for a man whose family's home burned down. So far, Talley's $1 Thursdays have raised more than $20,000 for people in need throughout his community.
When you think of fundraising, many people won't donate $1 because they think it is not enough and they are afraid of looking cheap. However, Talley wanted people to know that every dollar counts, literally. Your dollar bill can absolutely help somebody out and even change lives.
When Talley finds somebody in need he posts it on Facebook along with Cash App and Venmo links asking for donations. All of the money that he receives goes directly to helping those in need. He was inspired by wanting to do good for others.
We can only hope to see more of this kind of kindness, love, and positivity in the world.
You can follow his $1 journey on Facebook where you can also make a donation.
