Spicy BBQ sauce
From baked pork chops to BBQ sandwiches- What do you do with the leftover pork chops? Keep reading to discover how I make spicy BBQ sauce that revives leftover pork chops into another appetizing meal.
Baked pork chops aren't so tasty after a night's stay in the refrigerator. They become dry and leather-like and less appetizing. Once heated back up, they are inedible.
Today, I am using leftover pork chops to make a delicious BBQ that can be served in a bun, or on thickly sliced bread. Since the chops are leftovers from another meal, I will be making a homemade BBQ sauce to add to the sliced meat.
What is exclusive about my most modern spiced BBQ sauce is that I use pickle juice instead of plain vinegar. I also use sriracha powder and cayenne pepper flakes to feature a little spice on every morsel.
Ingredients:
- Leftover pork chops
Instructions:
Using a cutting board and knife, cut the pork chops into thin slices. Now, place the sliced meat into a skillet and add enough water to the skillet to cover the meat. Allow the meat to simmer over low heat while you make the BBQ sauce.
Ingredients for homemade BBQ sauce
- 12 ounces of tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon of yellow mustard
- 2 teaspoons of ketchup
- 1-½ cups of water
- ½ cup of light brown sugar
- 3-4 tablespoons of pickle juice
- 3 tablespoons of honey or molasses
- 1 tablespoon of smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon of seasoning salt
- 1-½ teaspoons of ground black pepper
- 1-½ teaspoons of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of onion powder
- 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper flakes
- 1-½ teaspoons of sriracha powder
- 1 teaspoon of liquid smoke flavoring
BBQ sauce instructions
In a medium-sized pan, add all the above ingredients, place the pan on the stovetop, and simmer for fifteen minutes. Stirring frequently. (Add more water if the sauce is thicker than you prefer.)
Next, add the sliced meat and spoonfuls of the BBQ sauce to a skillet, covering the meat with as much sauce as you prefer. Cook for an additional five minutes. Serve the meat on thick sliced bread or buns. Serve and enjoy!
Notes:
I like to toast the buns or slices of bread. This keeps the sauce from soaking through. I also enjoy preparing coleslaw to add over BBQ meat.
Place any remaining BBQ sauce in a mason jar and cover with a lid, then place it in the refrigerator.
