ST. LOUIS, MO – Webster University will hold make-up prom to welcoming all new students just a few days before the 2021-2022 academic year. ImPROMtu, the name of the prom will be held on Saturday, August 21, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Grant Gymnasium on the Webster Groves campus.
The purposes of the event are to make memories that the students from high school missed out on and doing some fun activities. The idea of this event originally comes from a group of parents.
“We believe that this is a fun way to start the school year while also providing our students with a memory that they will cherish for the rest of their lives,” said Billy Ratz, director of Parent Engagement and the interim director of First-Year Experience at Webster.
Impromptu retained a professional company to decorate Grant Gymnasium to become as real as usual prom. They also invite a professional DJ.
In there, there will be a photo booth, snacks, an appearance by the school’s mascot “The Gorlok” and even an official punch bowl.
The university does not determine the dress code, it depends on the students.
“They can wear tuxedos if they wish, make their own prom clothes out of duct tape, or wear their favorite Halloween costumes,” Ratz said.
The plan has been made last year but due to the pandemic, so the event was put on hold, as things get better now because of all the students, staff, and Webster community are required to be vaccinated and it is mandatory to wear a mask, it is safe enough to hold this prom in this year.
