History is filled with individuals who embody the characteristic of determination. Their examples inspire us to keep going with whatever goal we’re pursuing.

If you’re trying to achieve a goal, but you’ve reached your mental or physical limit, it helps to review the examples of people who’ve mastered the art of determination.

Let’s consider some pretty inspirational people and how their example can help you reach your goals.

Walt Disney

You’ve watched his glorious movies, memorized the songs, and even been to his amusement park. However, did you know Mr. Mouse himself suffered from debilitating losses? He was let go from his job with Kansas City Star because his cartoons were lacking creativity. Imagine that; being fired from your job and then becoming one of the most creative pillars of animation.

Walt didn’t let this tragic loss shape him. In fact, he was determined enough to continue pursuing his goal. Because of his endurance, he’s known as being one of the most artistic and creative individuals of this lifetime.

Albert Einstein

Did you know the genius himself didn’t start reading until he was seven? In fact, his teachers thought he was behind in comparison to his peers. He was often regarded as “dumb” and denied entrance into prestigious schools.

Did Einstein allow the opinions of others to sway his destiny? He didn’t. Because of his determination, he’s regarded as one of the smartest men who ever lived. In fact, his photos are closely associated with prestige, superior intelligence, and innovation. His determination is what go him through those tough times.

Rosa Parks

Regarded as the woman who led the Civil Rights Movement, Rosa Parks didn’t allow legal stipulations to trump her integrity. By standing up to the law and using the powerful word, “No,” she paved the way for African Americans to receive equal treatment. Had she refused to take a stand, who knows how long the road to equality would have been. Her determined spirit is a fine example for us to always stand up for our rights even in the face of harsh oppression. We never know the impact it can have.

J.K. Rowling

The dynasty that is Harry Potter is nothing without Rowling’s mind. Despite this genius of a series, Rowling endured some pretty tough stuff during her lifetime. While going through a divorce, she quickly became unemployed and homeless.

This laid the groundwork for her creative ventures. Instead of crumbling under the pressures of life, she continued to write. Eventually, her series gained attention and became one of the best-selling novels of our time.

Coco Chanel

The fashion icon herself suffered debilitating criticism for her stature, skin color and hair length. Despite the public’s lack of interest, she continued to make some of the most beautiful clothes the last century has ever seen. Now, the Chanel brand is the definition of class and high fashion.

Had she listened to the harsh words of those around her, who knows where the fashion haus would be today. Her strong example proves just how far a determined spirit can take you.

There are countless others who showcased a determined spirit that led them to utter success. Despite their different trials, they all have one thing is common: endurance.

When we think about our goals, are we determined enough to endure the challenges to reach the top? Do we have the mental and physical capacity to reach new heights? By homing in on your determined spirit, you’ll see how far you can actually go. By cultivating this characteristic, you’ll effectively receive the success you’ve always dreamt of.
