There’s good news for F1 racing fans in Miami. After Austin, the Formula 1 Grand Prix is coming to Miami in 2022! Miami is full of sports fans and is home to some of the leading teams across various sports.

But, then, of course, there are the Miami Marlins, Miami Dolphins, and many more. And now, fans can look forward to witnessing the Formula One Grand Prix from the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. How cool is that?

Miami Grand Prix 2022

Miami will be the 11th venue in the U.S. to host the Formula One Grand Prix. The world-famous racing sport will be returning to Florida after more than sixty years after it began in 1950. While the championship authorities haven’t announced a specific date, the president, Stefano Domenicali, has reported that the event will occur somewhere around the second quarter of 2022.

Some people speculate the race to take place in May or June, so start marking your calendars. Better yet, the race is part of a ten-year-long deal. So fans can expect more events in the area in the following years.

However, getting here was no easy feat. Stephen Ross, the owner of the Hard Rock Stadium, had been trying to get the event hosted in Miami for several years before the championship council finally approved. Despite what fans may believe, designing a circuit for the racing event takes a lot of time and effort.

Formula One and the other parties involved experimented with tracks for the race as early as August 2017. Initially, the team was trying to lay down a suitable route in Downtown Miami. However, it didn’t work out. So fast forward to two years later, and they switched to Miami Gardens.

Even then, they ended up creating 75 different versions of the track for various sites and simulated around 36 different track layouts. Finally, after many site visits and endless days developing a route on Google Earth, Formula One and Apex Circuit Design managed to finalize the current track around the Hard Rock Stadium complex.

The track

The track is one of a kind and very exciting for drivers, constructors, and fans alike. It is 3.36 miles or 5.41 kilometers long, with the Hard Rock Stadium complex at its center. The circuit features 19 turns, all with varying complexities, and three straight runs.

There is also a potential for three DRS zones. Moreover, the track will have an average speed of around 223 kilometers per hour, along with an estimated top speed of about 320 kilometers per hour. The asphalt track is a planned street circuit, specifically to host the Miami Grand Prix 2022.

It has a similar vibe to the track in Albert Park, Melbourne, which hosts the Australian Grand Prix. However, the Miami track has a bonus design to accommodate other uses as well. It is a temporary circuit, but the design makes it feel like it’s permanent.

The track is mostly flat but does feature undulations at a few points, which the designers have integrated into the layout. The truth is that the design team had to account for various infrastructure and operational factors.

They had to be mindful of the stadium itself, which is at the heart of the circuit and has to host the NFL. But, then, on one side, the Miami Dolphins are constructing their new training complex as well. There is also an underground drainage system to incorporate.

Nevertheless, the team managed to construct a brilliant track. If you follow the race from the deck of the stadium, you can even see all of the turning points.

What does this mean for Miami?

So, what does this upcoming event mean for the residents and businesses of Miami? First, a giant victory flag shall soon wave proudly in Miami Gardens, just 16 miles north of downtown Miami.

The city is already known for its vibrant culture, artistic vibe, and incredible food. Lately, they have also had many small businesses popping up. With this new Formula One track, the company will only get better. The event will create more than 4,000 jobs for the local people. In addition, there will be around 35,000 hotel bookings for people coming to see the event.

All in all, the promoters predict that the new circuit will add $400 million to the city’s economy every year. Initially, there was some resistance and protest by the residents and even from a few elected officials. Finally, the championship promoters agreed to launch a STEM education program in school and a $5 million community benefits package.

The city’s tourism is bound to increase with all of the new action which will further aid the economy. In addition, a big economic boost for Miami Gardens and surrounding areas will be a much-desired result from Formula One.

About Formula One

The Formula One series goes back to the 1920s to the European Championship. However, it was after World War II that the Formula One we know now was created. In 1950 the first Championship was held in the U.K.

Similarly, the U.S. was also hosting its racing form since the beginning of the 1900s in the U.S. Grand Prix. Later, it became part of the Formula One World Championship. From 1950 to 1960, Indianapolis hosted the races under the Indy 500 event.

After that, Sebring hosted the first-ever U.S. Grand Prix as part of the World Championship in 1959. In the years after that, the races were held in many locations, such as Riverside, Watkins Glen, Long Beach, Las Vegas, and many more.

The final lap

So, whether you are a Formula One fan or not, the upcoming Miami Grand Prix is something everyone can look forward to and enjoy. Even if you are not particularly interested in the race, you can benefit from and use many programs and business opportunities to your advantage. And for people who are fans of the sport, well, they have a whole year to prepare themselves for the exciting times ahead.
