Best Brunch in San Diego part 2

foodventurewithanna

Some new brunches have recently popped up around San Diego! Let’s discuss ;)

5. Lumi

I’ve written about Lumi’s dinner in another article, and the brunch that they recently released is just as amazing. Lumi is a new rooftop bar and restaurant located in downtown San Diego, with the same owners as neighboring Huntress Steakhouse. First off, Lumi’s vibe is immaculate. You take an elevator to the top floor, and the moment you step out you’re greeted with beautiful city views and an atmosphere that’s fun and eclectic but also posh. Lumi serves Japanese and Peruvian influenced cuisine, which also reflects in their brunch. To start off, make sure to get their version of a Bloody Mary.

Next, I would highly recommend the crispy causa benedict, which is your choice of house smoked salmon, Canadian bacon or smoked kanpachi on a causa (Peruvian fried potato) with hucaina hollandaise and salsa criolla. One of the best benedicts I've ever had, seriously, the causa is SO addicting. I would also recommend the house smoked fish platter, which includes a few different types of fish and pickled vegetables that were AMAZING. It came with a house mustard too!

Lumi is the perfect place to go if you’re looking for a slightly bougier brunch where you can dress up and feel fancy, while enjoying the rooftop breeze!

6. Serea Coastal Cuisine

Serea is another bougie brunch joint, this time with an ocean view! It’s located in the famous Hotel Del Coronado, located in (you guessed it) Coronado. This is definitely a brunch you want to look cute for, as the hotel makes for a perfect place to get loads of Instagram worthy cute AF photos. On the menu you’ll find your typical items (pancakes, benedict, etc) as well as some bougie items (Maine lobster and chorizo scramble, lobster roll, steak and eggs). I would personally recommend the strawberry ricotta pancakes- they really satisfy that warm-and-gooey pancake craving you may have!

The loaded smoked salmon bagel is amazing as well. It comes with burrata and is deconstructed so you make the bagel yourself!

The lobster scramble is good as well, with large chunks of lobster in it. They also have a kachapuri, which is a Georgian cheese boat- while theirs is not quite authentic, it’s good if you’re simply looking for a tasty breakfast pizza. This is definitely the type of spot you’ll want to get a few mimosas at and sit back and enjoy the view and sea breeze!

7. Intazza

With these two slightly expensive places, of course I have to include a cheaper and more casual option! Intazza is a coffee house in Mission Beach a couple of steps from the beach- the perfect place to grab a bite and a drink before hitting the sand! They have a few fun coffee drinks such as Hakuna Horchata and Bees Knees. If you prefer something refreshing, they have some blended options as well as a limeade. Moving on to food, I would highly recommend the Good Morning America, which is a breakfast sandwich with cheddar, grilled onion, provolone, fried egg, thick cut bacon and garlic aioli. One of the tastiest breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had. And it’s only $7!

I also really enjoyed their Avo Toast, which is unique in that it comes with sundried tomato, cilantro and an egg on top! If you’re looking for a sweet option they have a Strawberry Nutella French Toast Sando! If you’re a Nutella lover (which who isn’t?!) This is the breakfast for you! So decadent, and only $7.50!!

So make sure to grab a bite here on their outdoor patio before running off to catch some sun, or wander around Mission Beach and Pacific Beach!

Best Hidden Gems of San Diego Part 2

Hello friends! It’s time for the continuation of the best hidden gems in San Diego :) Now I go much more in depth about Soup Du Jour in another article, but to sum it up, SDJ is a cute hidden gem that serves soups and other dishes from around the world. It’s nestled in an apartment complex and has a beautiful patio with a fire pit! Every soup I’ve had from there is amazing, and you can tell how much effort they put into perfecting each dish. I often come here on rainy/cold days or when I need a bowl of soup to cheer me up. My favorites include the albondigas (Mexican meatball soup) and their vegetable udon (in a beautiful low sodium dashi broth!). If you’ve never had udon, it’s a thick bouncy Japanese noodle that’s actually my favorite type of noodle! I’m addicted to the thick juicy texture. My boyfriend’s favorite is the spare rib daikon- it reminds him of the soup his Taiwanese mom would cook for him growing up. I pair their soups with the spiced street chicken (Taiwanese popcorn chicken) and homemade taro chips. Their street chicken is as good as any boba shops’ on Convoy, which is saying a lot! And their taro chips are SO addicting, but without any of the additives or artificial flavors of chips at the supermarket. Anything you get from here will be a hit. Some of their other dishes include braised beef pot roast, scallion bread, chickpea cauliflower curry, roasted duck wraps. You can even get local beers/kombucha on tap here, as well as boba! If you miss Souplantation and are looking for a replacement for their soups, look no further!
