If you haven’t had the chance to try food in Daly City, where have you been? Daly City is a melting pot of various foods and hidden gems. Over the years, I would travel to Daly City to find new and unique eats. If you are a local or even if you are stopping by Daly City to shop, then make sure to stop by and give these several restaurants a try! Here is a list of my recommended hidden gem restaurants to visit and what to order when you get there:
Bart Grocery and BBQ
If you haven’t had the chance to visit this small business, oh yes, this is going to be my first recommendation to you! Not only would you be supporting a local and small business, but you would also get to enjoy their affordable and amazing food. The BBQ shop is located within a small convenience store. The kitchen is on the side within the store. Don’t worry, the smell of the food will lead you to the right place to take your order. But if I could advise you, it might be best to call in advance and place your order as the lines could be long during peak eating hours. If the line is busy, just keep trying until they answer. Overall, the food portions are great for the price you pay. You will surely have leftovers for days. Here are some things I recommend getting when you visit.
Bulgogi Plate: If this is your first time here, I highly recommend trying the Bulgogi Plate, which is super affordable! For about $10 you will get a generous portion of stir fried thinly sliced and marinated beef and onions. The plate comes with a huge portion of my favorite japchae noodles, a small salad, and rice. I highly suggest upgrading your white rice to the kimichi fried rice for an extra $3. Trust me when I say, it is worth it.
Beef Short Ribs (Kalbi) BBQ Plate: This plate is a little more on the pricey side at $15 a plate, but again, there are generous portions for what you pay. This plate also comes with japchae noodles, a small salad, and white rice. The kalbi short ribs were marinated perfectly and the taste was super flavorful and not too greasy.

Keith’s Chicken N Waffles
If you’re local, this spot may already be a given for you. But for those who aren’t familiar with Keith’s Chicken N Waffles, let me introduce you. When I frist found out about this place, it was from their Instagram, and my goodness did the food look amazing. Well to my hopes, the food tasted just as good as its looks. Also, the service was very friendly and welcoming here! Here are a few things I would recommend ordering for when you plan your visit:
Three Piece Breast, Thigh, and Leg Meal: I love how juicy and crispy the fried chicken is here. You can’t go wrong with this order. For about $17, you get all of this food PLUS a giant gourmet Belgian waffle on the side. You also have the option of upgrading your Belgian waffle to a specialty waffle for an additional charge. I would highly recommend you do it! You can choose from small waffle trios, red velvet waffles, or even a sweet potato waffle! I really enjoyed the red velvet waffle.
Chicken Strips: For those who like their fried chicken without the bones, this fried chicken option might call your interest! The order comes with a small side and their homemade cornbread which I really loved! For the sides there are so many options but to name a few, I highly recommend the BOMB Mac and Cheese, the Candied Yams, and more cornbread of course!

I rarely can find myself a solid Filipino restaurant that offers delicious and authentic food. My best friend is Filipino so I practically grew up on amazing lumpia, pancit, chicken adobo, and kare-kare that her grandmother would always make for us after middle school was over. I was excited to find Fil-Am Cuisine in Daly City. I was not disappointed and was so excited to have found an authentic spot with delicious Filipino food! Here are some of my recommendations for if you ever plan to visit:
Pancit with BBQ: I love this plate. Honestly for less than $10, you get a hefty portion of food. I normally order the pork and chicken skewer which are both dipped into a sweet and savory sauce before being grilled. I loved the flavors of both! They were excellent. The pancit which is basically stir-fried noodles were amazing and flavorful as well.
Turon: If you love dessert or simply have a sweet tooth after every meal, then I highly suggest ordering the Turon! It is a sweet banana wrapped in a fried eggroll, and my goodness, it tastes so great!
Chicken Adobo: When I had their chicken adobo, I had to compare it to the one I ate growing up, and wow, it was pretty good! The chicken was both moist and flavorful. Not to mention, the authentic taste was all there!
Kare Kare: This too I highly recommend ordering. I wouldn’t say it’s better than what my best friend’s grandma would make, but it’s pretty good for the price!

Again, if you love filipino food and desserts especially, come to this place because they have THE BEST Halo Halo in town. I have only been here to try their Halo Halo, so I could not recommend other dishes, however, if you are ever craving a chilled dessert, this place is a must visit! I am sure I would want to come back here for the other foods that are offered, but I just keep coming back for the simple and flavorful Halo Halo… If you ever have a chance to try this place, let me know if the comments below what other food recommendations you might have! I would love to know about them.
