If you know a thing or two about South San Francisco, chances are you know that South San Francisco is very close to the San Francisco International Airport, or for its big industry businesses in the area. But did you know that South San Francisco offers some hidden gems when it comes to the food scene. I had to visit the city because I wanted to find some delicious eats, and my goodness, I was not disappointed! Here are some restaurants that are in the city of South San Francisco that I recommend visiting.

Fire Pot (Take Out Business)

Ever since COVID, it has been difficult to go to a hot pot restaurant and enjoy such a winter cuisine. However, with times changing, the only real alternative is to bring the hot pot experience back home! Out of all of the hot pot places offered, Fire Pot makes it extremely easy to have a hot pot experience at home for an affordable price! Yep, that’s right. Fire Pot is not a restaurant, they specialize in takeout hot pot experiences! Please note that Fire Pot is not a restaurant, their business is located within a warehouse and offers tons of parking for picking up your meals or getting it delivered with food delivery apps. Here are some items I highly recommend ordering when you decide to order take out from Fire Pot!

1. Hot Pot Combo: I tend to get the Hot Pot Combo for 2 because it’ s just me and my boyfriend. But let me tell you, for about $50 you get A LOT of ingredients and dishes for your hot pot, it almost can feed 3! The combo meal comes with 2 Soup Bases (I highly recommend ordering the Spicy Szechuan Mala Base and the Miso Base), 3 Choices of Meat or Seafood (I highly recommend the AMERICAN WAGYU and PREMIUM PORK options), 1 Meat Ball Combo, 1 Large Vegetable Combo with Mushroom Combo and 2 Noodles of your Choice. I am telling you, it is a whole other experience and so much food. I love the flavors of their home-made broths as well!

2. NOTE: Rather than ordering from ubereats or any other delivery app, try to order direct from Fire Pot to help give them more profits. Delivery apps I hear take anywhere from 30-35% from restaurant businesses! It’s insane!

SSF Chickenbox

Ohhhh honey, if you’re into fried chicken, then you must definitely check out SSF Chickenbox because their chicken is still under the radar and deserves to be noticed! This restaurant made its establishment in 2020 and is still fairly new. I was lucky enough to try some of their fried chicken meals and sandwiches, and boy, they did not disappoint! Here are some of my favorite dishes to order from SSF Chickenbox

1. Fried Chicken Sandwich: Oh, my goodness, for about $10 you get a pretty decent sized fried chicken sandwich that’s both juicy, dense, and crispy! The sandwich is made with fried chicken thigh, a brioche bun, shredded lettuce, house made pickles and their special house sauce, the taste is on point.

2. Family Box: If you plan to order from the whole family, I highly recommend ordering the Family Box. It feeds 4 people and includes 4 mochi muffins (THESE ARE BOMB. They also offer Ube Mochi Muffins!), pickles, and your choice of 4 sides. It is a lot of food for $40, which comes out to $10 a head! It’s a must if you are in the mood for some good fried chicken.

Hidden Spot

When I discovered Hidden Spot via yelp, I had to check it out because it had 200+ reviews sitting at 5 STARS. I wanted to know what kinds of food they offered, so I paid a visit. When they named themselves Hidden Spot, they weren’t playing. This spot is truly a hidden gem and I enjoyed their food a lot! Here are some dishes I suggest trying.

1. MVP Wings: These wings are just as juicy as they are crispy. Their MVP wings are made with a sweet and spicy soy glazed sauce and it’s just oh so amazing. If you’re going to order any sides, just order these to start.

2. Hype Sandwich: They call it the hype sandwich well because, it lives up to the hype! Ha, that is why I would call it the Hype Sandwich, because it is THAT good. The Hype sandwich is made with Shredded Chicken, BBQ Sauce, Honey Mustard, Creamy Buttermilk Ranch, Hidden Sauce (House Garlic Aioli), and Sharp Cheddar Cheese. It is definitely one solid sandwich option, and I always get full with just one half, and save the other half for an afternoon snack or dinner.

3. Hottie Tottie: I have always been a fries kind of girl because I never really enjoyed the dry flavor of tatter tots. Cal me weird, but it’s true! However, I really enjoyed the Hottie Tottie at Hidden Spot because they offered Tatter Tots with a twist! It is topped with Mayonnaise, Sriracha, Green Onions, Their house hidden sauce, and Hidden Spot’s home Chili Blend of Spices.

4. The Firefighter Sandwich: If you like spicy, I highly recommend ordering the firefighter sandwich. It is made with Karaage Chicken, Shredded Cabbage, Tomatoes, Pickled Jalapeos, Dried Chili Blend, Habanero Aioli, Hidden Sauce (House Garlic Aioli), Spicy Mayo, Sriracha. This sandwich is HUGE. I might be exaggerating, but the weight on these sandwiches I felt were almost 2lbs, for the price you pay, Hidden Spot definitely does not skimp out on their food.
