Minnesota Vikings Draft Picks, Team Needs and Mock Draft

FlurrySports

The Mike Zimmer era for the Minnesota Vikings is over (fans rejoice). It has been an offseason of change in Minnesota, replacing the head coach and general manager. However, extending Kirk Cousins does show that some things never change. Now, the Vikings draft picks will have to be put to good use for this team to be true contenders next season.

Yes, Minnesota has been able to make some decent signings in NFL Free Agency. Still, there are plenty of holes left to be filled on this depth chart.

Let's take a look at the full list of 2022 Vikings draft picks. We will also review the Minnesota Vikings draft needs and do a short mock draft of the first couple of rounds to fill these needs.

Minnesota Vikings Draft Needs

Cornerback

Without a doubt, the top Minnesota Vikings draft need is at cornerback. The organization has missed at the position recently, and they also have a couple of cornerbacks still unrestricted free agents. They added slot cornerback Chandon Sullivan in free agency, but drafting an outside corner with the first pick seems both wise and likely.

Linebacker

With the future surrounding Anthony Barr uncertain, an already thin outside linebacker group becomes a major need. Mike Zimmer is gone, so a philosophy change at defense is likely. Drafting players to fit the new defense is a must.

Edge Rusher

The Vikings signed Za'Darius Smith, who has plenty of question marks himself. Overall, the edge rusher group for Minnesota has some uncertainty. This isn't a need the Vikings need to draft on Day 1, but taking a project on Day 2 could pay dividends.

Other Positions of Need: Interior OL, Safety, Tight End

Round 1, Pick 12: Trent McDuffie, CB, Washington

The Vikings can't nail a first-round cornerback to say their lives, but maybe the new regime has the Midas touch. Trent McDuffie looks to be a safe pick at the position. He is a high-motor player that hasn't allowed a single touchdown over the past two seasons. He wouldn't be a project of a pick. McDuffie is more than capable of starting immediately.
