For anyone visiting Walt Disney World in Orlando at any time during the pandemic may have experienced Disney in a different way than they had in the past; in some cases it seems like changes were happening week to week. Disney, not surprisingly, went forward with their 18 month long 50th Anniversary Celebration which began with a lot of interest and fanfare on October 1st, 2021. So far Disney has been celebrating in a very big way with limited edition souvenirs, shows and unique food menus and dessert items! We are always on the lookout for new 50th anniversary items and experiences while cruising around the parks. Disney has not disappointed in this department as they continue to not only expand the anniversary items, but also reimagine and reopen some of the classic shows as well.
While many indoor shows were initially closed due to Covid-19 restrictions; as the regulations relaxed, Disney began to slowly reopen these attractions.
The Festival of The Lion King was one of the first to re-open at Disney's Animal Kingdom and picked up just like it left off, a resounding fan favorite despite being launched in a modified format known as A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King. You join in a grand gala celebration of Simba, the cub Lion King! Seating is still limited for this show and Play Disney fans will earn an achievement for this show! This show is located in the Africa area of the park and fills up quickly. Be sure to check the scheduled times for your park day.
Park goers will also be excited to see a 3D film and live show inspired by A Bug's Life, It's Tough to be a Bug! now open and running, located beneath the Tree of Life.
Now yet another cult classic show finds its way back into the park, resurfacing from the depths and onto stage for an updated performance in 2022. Finding Nemo fans will rejoice as Nemo returns to Animal Kingdom in The Big Blue...and Beyond! This reimagined stage show features puppets, singers and other live performers, backdrops and special effects to bring you back underwater with all your favorite fish! This show is located in Dinoland U.S.A. as you make your way towards Expedition Everest. When entering the park, stay to the right at the Tree of Life and then take your next right to head into Dinoland U.S.A.; the theater is towards the left. Please note, so far no dates or times for the show have been scheduled through June but you should continue to check back often. In the past we have noticed Disney has waited to add new experiences for Memorial Day week to kickoff the summer season with excitement.
