How to Register for the Disney Marathon Weekend

Flour, Eggs and Yeast

If you have visited Walt Disney World parks in the past, you are likely familiar with the amount of walking you may do in a single day trying to see and do everything on your itinerary or must do list. Now with the 50th anniversary taking place at Disney, there seems to be even more must see events and activities. Not to worry if you have not been able to visit since October 1st, 2021, the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary Celebration (go.com) will run for 18 months. There have been some really fun festivals, new rides and shows added to the Disney lineup. It can be a lot to take in, and in some cases, you may actually feel as if you are running from one activity to the next. While many guests do not appreciate having to run around Disney, there are others who look forward to running and also going to Disney. What a magical experience if you could do both at the same time.

As luck would have it, the 50th Anniversary is not the only anniversary Disney is celebrating. Our friends over at RunDisney are excited to present A Totally RAD 30 Year Celebration for the 2023 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend! | runDisney Blog post highlighting the start of it all. This premier endurance event weekend has been running for 30 years! I am looking forward to all the 1990's theming and some super cool medals for finishing the event.  This is a wonderful opportunity to race through the Orlando Disney parks and see Walt Disney World in a truly unique, and potentially tiring way! There are actually eight opportunities to test your mettle starting with the 5k event all the way up to the marathon itself. If you are feeling Goofy, you can do both the half marathon and then the full marathon for a total of 39.3 miles, not to be out done by the Dopey challenge which is the 5k, the 10k, half marathon and the full marathon all in one weekend! At the time of publication, you have 260 days to train; you should be fine with proper training! Before going any further, this is also a great event for people like me. By that, I am talking about watching from the sidelines and cheering the runners onward! Disney will have Spectactor Information | Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend | runDisney posted here for more details.

If you are unable to attend this event in person, there is still hope! Disney has spots open for virtual races that allow you to compete on your own courses and still go for the gold. The participant t-shirt and medal are the same, and you get to avoid the crowds. The only downside is you won't be able to run through the parks and maybe take a few photos with iconic characters along the way. In case you were wondering, the virtual 5k as an example is $84.21 plus tax and the onsite 5k will run $103.40 plus tax.

If you are planning on running in this extraordinary event, make sure you secure your race entries. This is a very well attended event and race tickets sell out fast! General Registration opens on Tuesday, April 19th, 2022 at 10am Eastern Standard Time. You can get familiar with registration and view an accurate race day count down on the runDisney site.

Because this event takes place in January 2023, a lot of the Runner Info along with transportation details has yet to be finalized and published. Disney, in the past 29 years of runDisney events, has built a solid reputation for being a great place for runners of any experience level. To help you gain the strength and knowledge to be successful on race day, runDisney has created a training plan for runners program. As a participant in the 2018 Walt Disney Marathon, my wife used this method to finish the race. She'll be sharing personal tips and tricks over the coming months on NewsBreak, so be sure to hit that follow button if you'd like to know more.

Do not forget to show up earlier than race day, to not only partake in any pre-race activities, but to pick up your race packet and attend the runDisney Health and Fitness Expo. Runners will need to attend the Health and Fitness Expo at least one day BEFORE their first event. The first available date open will be Wednesday, January 4th, 2023 from 10am to 8pm Eastern Standard Time.

You may also wish to check out a unique membership to Club runDisney, if you have ran or are planning to run multiple Disney events. It's a one-year membership that gets you early access to tickets and tier 1 pricing amongst other benefits.

If you're planning on racing the runners, figuratively on the phones, to gain an entry to one of these races, we'd love to know by commenting below. We'll be racing right alongside you for a spot!
