If you enjoy the Netflix Marvel series like Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders it is sad times ahead. Netflix is removing the shows, that were developed exclusively for Netflix from its roster. The shows were originally kept separate from the MCU movies with only the occasional reference to things that happened in the movies but they were made before Disney+ entered the scene and were canceled entirely before it launched.
Now that both Daredevil and Kingpin have entered the larger MCU via both Hawkeye on Disney+ and Spiderman’s “No Way Home” with the actors Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio respectively and the Netflix rights to the characters expiring on February 28th, this opens up a world of possibilities for the Netflix Marvel characters to re-enter the MCU. At what cost? I know I wasn’t expecting Netflix to remove the series from the streaming service entirely. The rights to the characters go back to Disney and could end up on either Disney+ or HULU but that’s all speculatory at this point. Disney+ is mostly family-friendly and a lot of the content of the Netflix Marvel shows are decidedly…. NOT.
I am choosing to take this as a step forward towards more Marvel TV starring our favorite canceled Netflix Marvel characters.
If you want to see another adult Marvel series that got rave reviews, you can check out Legion on FX which was created by Fargo’s Noah Hawley and covered the lesser-known super mutant son of Professor Xavier, Legion.
What do you think this removal of Marvel series on Netflix means for the future of the franchises? Is it just the end, or a beautiful super-powered beginning? Either way, it's time to start streaming now before they leave Netflix. Let us know in the comments!
