Covid tests have been hard to come by. Even with the announcement that insurances must cover the cost of at-home testing of up to 8 tests per insured individual many stores have been out causing shortages.
Testing has never been more important at Omicron rages on and waiting times to get into a testing site can last hours.
The US government is sending 4 free covid tests per valid residential address via USPS starting Wednesday. Simply visit https://special.usps.com/testkits and receive your at-home free tests with shipping starting in late January. They are unable to process duplicate orders so make sure your info is correct.
This will hopefully give people peace of mind before waiting those long hours to be tested and allow those with positive tests to start their quarantine immediately for the time required by the CDC before returning to work, school, or public spaces.
The government has secured more than 420 million covid tests currently to distribute through this program. They are all authorized by the FDA and can detect omicron and other variants. They may not all be the same packaging but will work as directed. This will hopefully lessen the burden on healthcare workers and those looking for tests on empty shelves.
Sign-up is open now via the site provided above.
