Are all you 60's and 70's babies ready for some feel good, get-up-on-your-feet, rock and dance tunes? Well, do I have a concert for you. Sir Rod "Do You Think I'm Sexy" Stewart and the rock band Cheap Trick are coming to the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut! The concert will take place on Wednesday August, 30, 2023 at 7:30 pm!
"In early 1966 a young Rod Stewart "found his way into the Jeff Beck Group as a vocalist and occasional songwriter and continued to tour with them around Europe and hit the United States in June 1968." By late August the group released their first album “Truth,” but despite it’s widespread success the band fell apart and by October 1968 Stewart signed a solo contract with Mercury Records by his 1971 released the album “Every Picture Tells a Story” that really started to get his career on an upward spiral. With another album under his belt, by 1975 Stewart made the move to Los Angeles, California and released “Atlantic Crossing.” He reached the pivotal point in his career three years later with the release of the iconic “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” single, despite all of the criticisms about the lyrics."
"As the times changed so did Stewart’s style; taking on a more new wave direction in the 80s. Unfortunately this resulted in mixed reviews of the albums that he released during this time. However things went back to stable with his 1988 release of “Out of Order” which had such hits as “Forever Young,” “Crazy About You,” and “My Heart Can’t Tell You No.” His following albums charted just as high and by 1994 he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.” Taken from the Song Kick website.
Cheap Trick is a 70's rock and roll band from Rockford, Illinois, that was formed in early 1973 by lead guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson, lead singer Robin Zander and on drums, Bun E. Carlos. "The current lineup of the band consists of Zander, Nielsen and Petersson. "Their work bridged elements of '60s guitar pop, hard rock, and punk rock, and would help set the template for subsequent power pop artists. Cheap Trick released their self-titled debut album in 1977 and, later that year, found success in Japan with the release of their second album, In Color. 1978's Heaven Tonight included the power pop classic "Surrender". The band achieved mainstream popularity in the United States in 1979 with the triple-platinum live album At Budokan and a Top 10 single, a live recording of "I Want You to Want Me." They followed with Dream Police (1979), their most commercially successful studio album, reaching No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart. In 1988, they hit big once again on the US charts their song "The Flame" was their first ballad to hit the top of the charts, according to Wikipedia.

In 1993, the Winton's daughter, Susan and her family reopened in the White Hills of Shelton under the name of Oronoque Farms. In 2004, new owners have moved in to carry on the Winton family traditions of their homemade pies and baked goods. They possibly were the real thing but customers unfamiliar with the native form of the spice might have decided they had been sold a counterfeit after futilely trying to grind the unusually hard seed, according to Wikipedia.

Where can you get the freshest homemade Apple Cider in Connecticut? There are, of course, several to choose from in the Nutmeg State. I have found four Apple Orchards/Cider Mills that truly stand out and that you may want to try. First on the list is a place that is known for their super delicious apple cider and seasonal apple picking in the Fall. So many people have raved about BEARDSLEY'S Cider Mill & Orchard, located at 278 Leavenworth Road in Shelton, Connecticut. They have been making homemade apple cider since 1849. They are having a Pick-Your-Own (PYO) apples starting on Sunday, September 10th. It opens at 10am (if it's not raining) and they will be picking Gala and MacIntosh apples. Pick your own apples is on WEEKENDS only, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. "Did you know that it takes approximately 25 average size apples to make 1 gallon of cider? Our cider is 100% pure juice. We make it from sound, ripe apples that may have blemishes or are too small for selling by the bag. All cider apples are washed and scrubbed at least once, and most are washed twice before being ground and pressed. Our press is a state-of-the-art system with built-in high pressure washers to keep it clean and sanitary. At the end of each day of pressing we completely wash down the mill and sanitize the entire room. This is one of the reasons we think our cider tastes better. Our White Hills Distillery spirits are now available in our Cider Mill Farm Store!"
