27-year-old mom of three, Ashley Morris Mullis lived in Royerton, Indiana.
In early 2012, Ashley met 62-year-old Daniel York Sr. at a car garage. He was married to his wife Sheila, with whom he had two adult daughters. Soon, Ashley and Daniel began an affair. Her husband found out, filed for divorce, and was granted custody of their two sons, ages 1 and 3.
Ashley rented a house owned by Daniel. In late 2012, she discovered she was pregnant with his child, whom she named Abby. Sheila did not know about the affair and that her unborn child was Daniel’s, however, Ashley was preparing to tell Sheila everything when she suddenly vanished.
On September 19, 2013, Ashley went to a family gathering with Abby, who was just a few months old. She was never seen again. Her phone was never used after that day, nor was Ashley’s bank account or her Social Security card.
A week later, Ashley’s ex-husband contacted Ashley’s parents, Don and Leandra, to let them know that he couldn’t get in contact with her. The Mullises called Ashley several times and even went to her home, but no one answered the door. They left a note asking Ashley to call them, but she never did. When they returned a few days later, the note was gone.
Don reported Ashley missing on October 10, 2013.
The police found Abby in the custody of Daniel and Sheila York. Daniel claimed that Ashley signed over her parental rights to them in exchange for $15,000, and took off. Daniel was also driving Ashley’s van. The Yorks claimed that they had absolutely no idea where Ashley could be.
On October 13, at 1:30 am, a white truck was seen loading property from Ashley’s home. The license plate was traced back to Sheila York. By the time the authorities went to the home on November 15th, it was empty and all of Ashley’s belongings were already gone. The Yorks hired an attorney and refused to cooperate. Their Yorktown, Indiana home was searched but nothing of interest was found.
Daniel was named a POI in Ashley’s disappearance as well as the case of 22-year-old Heather Musick. Two years later in 2015, Daniel and Sheila moved to Florida, taking Abby with them. They refused to allow Don and Leandra Mullis to visit their granddaughter and cut her off from any maternal relatives. Daniel passed away a month later from liver cancer.
Ashley's parents sued Sheila seeking visitation with Abby. Her lawyer told them she had legally adopted Abby, which turned out to be false. In February 2023, Sheila was charged with k*dnapping and obstruction of justice, and Abby, now 10, was placed in the custody of social services.
The search for Ashley Mullis continues a decade later.
Ashley has the tattoo “Ashton” on her left arm and a butterfly on her right leg. She may have been wearing a ruby ring, a cross necklace, and a gold half-heart “BFF” necklace. Today, she would be 36. If you have any information, contact Delaware County Sheriff’s Office at 765–747–7781.
